I have had a Raptor toy hauler that had been in the 17000lb range. It pulls no problem with my airbagged Goerend 2500. My truck has been pulling 10000-17000lbs since new with no problems. I now have purchased a Cyclone 3800 which will be in the 18000lb range with 400lbs more on the pin. My truck is not a dually. What would be the ideal truck for this load ? It seems even a 1 ton dually (06-09ish) still dont "legally" pull the weight. It seems like axle weights went way up in 10-11. Whats realistic ?
One thing Id be looking into at that wieght is a CDL. My understanding is even if its not a commercial vehicle @ 26001 pounds you are required by DOT to obtain a CDL. I may be wrong and Im sure someone will correct me if I am. Id be looking at a 3500 drw or a 4500 but then you got to be looking at the combined wight too(cdl issue if it applys) but I also doubt DOT will be hunting not for hire vehicles hauling a camper unless they want to be a azz...
EDIt: just saw your location is out of the USA. Forget everything I jsut said about the CDL thing...

Cdl is only required in this case if used commercially.
You dont need a cdl as long as it is for private use. You can use your truck to pull it and be fine. If your worried about the weight rating of the truck than have it raised at the DMV. I can do that here. I can have it set at any weight I want. It just cost more the higher the weight. I was told this at the port of entry here in Utah when I got my over lenght permit. I pull 22k all the time and Im 75 feet long. Were only alowed to be 65 feet without a over length permit. With the permit Im allowed to go to 77 feet.

No need for a CDL just a Class A license if your going to be over 26,001 lbs. CDL is only needed for commercial use.

My truck is listed at the DMV as 12,000 lb qvwr. The D.O.T. Officer at the port of entry said i could raise that rating at the DMV. It just requires me to reregister it at a higher weight rating. It just cost more to do this.

When I bought my 1 ton dually and went to get the tags I was asked how heavy I thought I would be. I really had no clue. So I just guessed and said total I would never be over 28,000lbs. I knew this was more than I would ever weigh but I thought better safe than sorry. I paid a little extra and got a sticker that said 14 tons that went on the plate. This was in Nebraska so who knows how it works where you live. This is just what I went through with mine. No paperwork, no questions, just a guess and a little extra money. When I say a little extra it was less than $20 if I remember right.

My Dually tows 19k regularly without issue. Hit the weigh stations a few times to check front/rear axle, pin weight and trailer axle weights. I've yet to surpass sticker weight limits on anything.
Dually is a MUST though for a rig that big -- but I have seen people tow with a SRW.. I'd never do it, but others do.

unless those axles on that trailer are 10k axles or tripples, he is not even close to needing a cdl or a class A. they go by what you can haul not what your hauling.
