have you looked at the mini magnums? they are actually ham radios, but most places you buy them online will modify them for cb for around $30. the radio alone is $85 so it does add up. if you're good with electronics you can get the info on the net and modify it your self. the radio measures 5"x6"x1/14" and will put out 30 watts (take into consideration a stock cb radio does 4 watts and most will do 15-20 watts if you tweak it a little) the only part you would have to get used to is the radio has 58 channels and I don't know which 40 of those channels match up with the 40 cb channels, but they know that the people who buy these 10 meter "export" radios intend to mod them for cb so I would think channels 1 - 40 would match the cb band. but no matter what radio you buy, it can only be as good as the antenna you plug into it.

I’ve been thinking about the Cobra 75WXST remote mount CB radio. Anybody have any experience with these radios? With a brake controller, and backup camera I’m running out of places to mount things. CB radio is next then a limo intercom for the slide in camper. I too need ideas for mounting electronics!

I have been running an older version of that for nearly 10 years with no problem. It dosn't talk very far but with an external speaker it is crystal clear. Its on the Motorcoach with only a 4 ft. loaded antenna.

I have the 18 in my Samurai. I love it. I wanted one with weather, and it found it used on Ebay. The front mount speaker makes it nice and easy to mount as well.

uniden 510xl is the best little cb out. In my opinoin. They are a loud little radio, and have had great luck with them.

Puddles, another option would be to find a used Realistic "One-Hander" TRC-462 radio. These are older Japanese-made radios that can be mounted remotely like the Cobra. I have mine mounted under the driver's seats, with a remote speaker mounted on the overhead console of my '98, and mounted on the door pillar (above my left ear) on my '03. The only downside to the TRC-462 is that it defaults to Channel 1 whenever you turn off the radio. Otherwise, it's a fantastic radio and can occasionally be found on eBay. Here are some pics of my '98 setup.
