Heavy Hauler Feedback Appreciated

I just bought a 2017 3500 with the Aisin. It's not a C&C but I want to hear from guys who have been towing 30K and how their trucks have been doing. The number of non C&C Aisin trucks seems to be fairly small so I'm posting here. My other truck is a 09' 3500 with 4.10's and a built Suncoast 68 and it towed 30K well but I did have to have trans work done after my Suncoast build to update the mega drum to the latest version after my other one started to fail. I just cracked the case on my 68 possibly due to a transfer case issue. I couldn't handle being without a truck for a while so I bought a 17' 3500 with the Aisin and hope I don't regret it.

From what it sounds like the Aisin does not like added power. I'm surprised at how flat the power delivery is considering the truck has 900 ft lbs on tap in my version. I know the C&C's are detuned. My 09' tuned at about only the 800 ft lb level has a lot more get up and go. I start hauling heavy loads this week so I hope that 900 ft lbs tames the load and does not disappoint.

I look forward to feedback from guys hauling 25K plus who are in the CDL realm and not under 20K loads which aren't working a truck that hard. I'm replacing the factory gooseneck hitch with a Unigoose since it should be stouter. I ruined three hitches on my 09' and even reinforced Unigoose because it sagged just a little. I probably put 10K on the pin and that's more then most hitches can handle. I was worried the hitches that come with utility bodies might not handle 10K on the pin and would be impossible to fix or beef up so I did not consider the C&C plus the derated 610 or so of torque was a worry.

I guess there's no law enforcement in Texas. Not too many smarts either.

If you read my question it clearly says why. Just asking for feedback not insults. I do not have a scale to measure pin weight but it is probably in the 8-10K range. The trailer with load is usually 28-30K and has unintentionally been as much as 34K. I have a 20' tandem dually PJ dump trailer that is 9K unloaded. Because a top dressing machine occupies the rear 5-6' of trailer space the 12-16 yard load get pushed forward and shouldered by the truck more then the norm.

The material has been weighed in the 45-55 pound per cubic foot range so the numbers are accurate and not just some guess pulled out of thin air. With PacBrake air bags at 100 psi unloaded the trucks rides without any excess sag. The Electric over hydraulic disc brakes on the trailer have amazing stopping power. I try to keep loads down to 26-28K when possible.

If we can keep this thread on track and out of the peanut gallery that would be great.

Pictures

Here is the trailer behind my 09' dually. I ditched the cast Rockstar Wheels for forged American Force 19.5's since they are much stronger. There was only about 12 yards of material in the trailer in the pictures. You can see my 09' truck had zero sag. Without airbags the rear would be several inches lower and handling would suck.

I would like to hear some replies on the issue myself, being that I use my truck basically the same except for the trailer. Mine is a 40ft flatbed gooseneck so I don't really run that much on the pin. I was considering a 4500 for the bigger tires and rear end bearings. I been wondering about the 68 verses the Aisin myself

I was in your neck of the woods at Fort Hood in 93' and half of 94' in the 91st Engineers. One of my dirt bike riding buddies is usually stationed there but he got a 12 month trip to Korea. I did my fours years and got out. It's way too hard to make six figures in the military. You pretty much have to have stars on your collar to make decent money. My last full year in the Army in 93' I made $18K. At least I got about another 25-30K out of my GI bill and only had to pay $1200 to get it.

Plus as a 12B I got to go sight seeing in the Persian Gulf and blow up an insane amount of Iraqi equipment and munitions. Quite an adventure.

I had good luck with my stock 68. It wasn't until the valve body started to go that I upgraded to a Jr. Comp trans then a full Mega Comp trans. I pulled 30-34K stock. I would recommend getting the ATS trans brace and the MOPAR skid plate. My trans guy said the skid plate supports the trans and transfer case better. My 68 cracked right on the top where the ATS brace would have bolted on. My transfer case rear bearings went out and the vibration may have cracked my trans.

I upgraded to 19.5's because the heavy loads were wearing out 17's in just 20K miles. The 19.5's may only go 40K on the rear but I can retread them for cheap many times from what I hear. The 19.5's on my front should last way longer.

I start hauling some heavy loads in just a few days and will see how the Aisin does. I think my 68 (with H&S tune) holds 1st gear to 20 mph while the Aisin is hitting third at 20 mph. Those low first few gears should be great for getting loads moving. The Aisin must have a higher 5-6 then my 68 because even though both my trucks have 4.10's the Aisin turns lower rpm's at 75 mph by probably at least 200-300.

So you're going along with a pickup with 10K on the pin? You always seemed brighter than that.

Thank you for your service, my son was out of Ft Hood. K.I.A. in Wasip province 6/1/11 SSG NICHOLAS Bellard, COMANCHE TROOP 6/9 3RD COMBAT,,,it could be just me but it seems that most of the military guys lean towards the Cummins when buying a diesel pickup
