DOT is working hard - finally
Well, its about time, they finally chasing guys running without signs, flying by the scale, pulling wide loads without permits. I am very happy with it, there are too many idiots out there who think they can just buy a truck and go pull anything they want without the right insurance, DOT #'s, MC'S, authority etc etc. People are low balling prices, pulling stuff like 26'-30' boats for $0.50-$0.80 a mile, yea, you hear right. DOT has started pulling more and more guys and preforming full CVS inspection. I saw 3 people this week - VA, NC, FL who got chased and pulled back to the scale after a fly-by, lol . I met one guy at the truck stop and he showed me a ticket for $790 , ![]() ![]() He was pulling a 32' boat with a 2500 truck and the dummy had his truck registered for 10,000lb . His trailer GVWR was rated 18,000lb so needless to say he got an over weight ticket and no DOT signs on the doors , log book violation - since he didn't had one .I talked to the guy trying to understand what is he doing driving - he told me " I found this web site ( Uship - ![]() ) and start bidding on different items .One more guy in FL was pulling a 28' boat - 10'2" wide for 575 miles - charged his customer $500 - got caught, avoiding scale and ticket was $1250 for: skipping scale, log book violation, no DOT signs, no oversize permits or signs and a few others oh yea, 10 hours shut down. one of my drivers saw state trooper chase a chevy guy pulling a 4 car trailer with his DOT numbers on but not pulling in to the scale. Many people are saying the same stuff all over the country - mostly east coast and upper mid west. So yea, i am happy, there is a reason why we - the legal haulers, charge as much as we charge and not $0.50-$1 per mile, maybe now we get some of them wanna be low ballers drivers out or at least becoming legal.

I was on the highway the other day and there was an old F-250 pulling a heavily loaded bumper pull trailer. Every time the wind blew he was in and out of his lane. The front of the truck looked like it was having trouble keeping contact with the road and the back was about as bottomed out as it gets. It was obvious the truck just couldn't handle it. And judging from all the landscaping equipment I would guess it was a landscaping operation. This to me is a commercial load, its quite obvious that he was doing it for profit with no signs and I am willing to bet no CDL license. He drove past two police officers that were radar checking and neither of them went after him. I am quite sure that the load exceeded 10k and knowing how a lot of the *immigrants* around here run under the table landscaping operations I find it to be crap. I really do think the law is the law and it should apply to everyone. People hauling illegally are hurting the profits of guys that follow the letter of the law. They also run the risk of hurting others on the road when they don't use common sense and proper equipment. I know a guy that landscapes legally and he is always talking about how the under the table guys are putting them out of business.

This is good to hear for the haulers. i wish the state would go to bat against the construction companies who are not legit with the licenses and workers. if it wasn't for them doing stuff for nothing people like me would be working full time right now. Hard to compete when we get paid a living wage and other companies are hiring illegals and paying them $8HR.

Do what I do, call your local HWY Patrol and report them, just tell them, "look, i am driving on HWY such and such and there is a commercial truck pulling a dangerous load, I think the drivier is sleeping or something, you better check him out before its too late, lol They will catch up with the guy quickly. I'm tired of them people who carry no insurance, no DOT, no log book, no medical card under bid everybody and skip all the weigh stations. I have no problem with fair competition, I actually welcome it as long as the other guy pay what we pay to be legit, not to mention the risk of an accident or impound .

We call that outlaw trucking round here. Theres a lot of people out there that have no idea they need all these things to be driving on the road. Its only a matter of time before they all find out.

hahaha around here we pull 25 foot boats and pass by several p.o.'s which don't pay attention unless we are going 5+ over the speed limit. ohh and a pulled a 24' with a 1500 burban and it was 8 foot wide.

So if Im hauling my own stuff and for not commercial use and Im not making money with it, the truck and trailer weighs 20k together and my registration on the truck is for 4 tons. I should get my registration up to 10 or 12 tons on the truck?
