change from gooseneck to 5th wheel??

hi, have a 48' race trailer with LQ. gooseneck and a 96 dodge 1ton ext cab. found a cowtown walk in sleeper worth the money and with 5ppl on 6+ hour trips could use the the extra seating. but with 33inch sleeper we can not turn the truck vary far before it hits the sleeper.. can you convert a gooseneck into a 5th wheel then use like the sidewinder to move the pivit point back and clear? Just tring to get a lil more room for the crew with out having to buy a new truck. Thanks for the help. Anthony

Ok ill answer the best i can. The sidewinder works in the replacing the pin box with a pivoting one. With a gooseneck and a adapter you wont have a pin box for the sidewinder. That doesnt stop you from using a slider hitch. Is this adapter you are planning on getting etrailer.com - 2085205 Gooseneck to Fifth Wheel Trailer Adapter

well from talking to pace trailer they said i could take the trailer to a good weld shop and have them cut off the gooseneck and move it 24" forward on the trailer. so the hitch would stick past the trailer shell. with adding 24" to the front of the trailer would that now make it a 50ft? and would that add a lot of weight in the bed of the truck? Its a 1ton dully

That sounds expensive. just adding a extension to the trailer doesnt always fix turning. If you can watch this it may help you see what im talking about. YouTube - Extended King Pins? 5th Wheel Trailer & Short Bed Trucks.

yeah i see what you are saying. I might not be able to have a cowboy sleeper on the the truck, just dont see a good way to fix this prob. from the back of the sleeper to the ball is 19" and from the ball to the bed with out sleeper is 52" so the only way to fix it is to move the ball back in the truck bed, then your load is not over the axle any more....and yes that was what i was thinking if i changed over to a 5th wheel

thanks for the help!! are worry is if we are up on the highway and something bad happen and i had to jack knife the trailer in a hurry, the trailer would take out who ever is in the sleeper....not worth it, but i am only 200 in on the sleeper. It was a good though tho...

have a gooseneck now but when we added the 33inch sleeper you can only turn about 45* before the trailer hits the sleeper. and saw the sidewinder but got to adding it all up i would have over 5k in that..called superglide and they said it will not move back fast enough to miss the sleeper..so i think we will just sale the sleeper and fix the back seat so its a lil more comfy

o ok i see what yer sayin now. yea if a slidin 5th wheel wont do it...idk what will. does the gooseneck give ya any problems? ya can get an offset ball to move it back a few inches. or did ya wanna convert the gooseneck to a 5th wheel hook up?
