You should be fine. I'm going through the process of figuring this out myself. 40' gooseneck enclosed car trailer tends to weigh 6-7k empty. Goosenecks tend to run a 20% pin weight. So, I'm looking at 14-15k capacity trailers which will put on a pin weight of 2800-3000lbs on my rear axle. Empty, I have 2700lbs on it. The door sticker rates the rear axle at 6klbs. I haven't looked at the tire ratings yet. 15k gooseneck is the most I'm willing to go and I really don't think I'm going to enjoy it much. I'm already looking at airbags. If this was being towed more than 6-7 times a year I would really look into a DRW truck. But seeing how it's not fulltime or often, and I'm staying inside all my ratings the 2500 will be ok. |

so that would be roughly 13,000lbs total? Is that to much for a 2500? You all keep saying 6,000lbs but since it is 6,000lbs of cargo plus the trailer is it really just 6,000lbs? I've never hauled a big trailer just smaller bumper pulls so I don't know much about the rating and what pin weight is etc..

13,000 should be fine i wouldn't push any more than that look at it this way 3500 dually with the appropraite trailer can legally haul 42k 3500 srw prolly about 25k-32k 2500- 10k-18k This is not facts its what i think they can do with out being in danger but i do know that a drw 3500 with the right trailer can legally haul 42k so i would think my #'s should be in the right ball park

ive pulled a 30ft goosneck with a MM G6 tractor on it. trailer plus tractor was 17,500 lbs, Gross combined was 24,000 lbs. pulled it no biggie. only slowed from 70-65 on hills in 6th gear on 2x5. technically overweight for a 01 2500 but pulled it no problem

I tow 15k gooseneck regularly (mini excavator and dump trailer). Tranny was the only problem I have had that I would attribute to towing. I would love to have an exhaust break (next on list). Stopping quickly becomes more important than going fast.

I strongly suggest you trade for a 3500 or 4500 dually. That enclosed trailer will fishtail all over the road with side winds. You want the stability of dual rear wheels, and you want more truck than you need. Oh and find a trailer mfg that will build a V nose trailer. That flat front will cost you at least 2mpg.

Well after doing some figuring and some thinking I'm only going to need to haul one car so that will cut the length of the trailer down some and the weight. Still going to get something at least 32 feet long. Moparman - I've had my truck for less than a month. Trading for something else is out of the question. This is my daily driver it why I opted for a 2500. Didn't want to drive a dually around everyday. Now surely a 2500 can haul about a 32' trailer with only one car in it.
