My 97 Trailer WIring Nightmare
Well I bought this truck. It looked to be wired for lights. But not for the brake controller. I went to hook up to my 30 ft. gooseneck to see if everything was working and I have no running lights down the side of the trailer. Does anyone know what the deal may be? I looked into the connector at the back of the truck and there were 2 wires not ran to the connector. The brake controller and the 12V power. Might the 12V wire have to do with no running lights? Or is it something else. Thanks Oh and what is the 12V wire used for and do I need to run one.

This is a great forum and others will help also. I am new to it. First I like to be sure I have a good solid ground by bolting the Pollack ground, often white, to the truck frame near the female Pollack truck socket in the truck. The 12 volt, at about 1 o'clock looking at the socket in the truck, is to charge the RV battery. If yours is not an RV it still may have a battery for its emergency brakes. The Dodge with the "trailer package" has the brake power wire at the rear of the truck. If not "trailer package" it could be best to run a new separate wire. PapaTom |
