driving review with 315's/35's....

so i trade my 285's for some 315's just because i wanted a more aggressive looking tire. i think trucks should have meaty tires imo. i knew i'd give up some mileage, and accelerationg but i wasn't prepared for the amount of loss!

seriously, i've lost about 2.5mpg on average, the truck feels like i have about 500 to 800 pounds in the bed at all times. egt's are higher just cruising due to needing more fuel to keep everything rolling.
cornering, braking, ride is about the same, no complaints there.
it does look great and i would be afraid to get in the dirt now on occasion but wow, i really don't like how it drives and performs.

i think i'll keep these, buy some nice hweels to go with them for cruising around, but i'll buy some stock 245's for my stock wheels for any trips or towing long distances. i have a feeling the 35's will kill the performance of hte truck when towing my jeep.

Some things to keep in mind with the 35's assuming stock computer calibration:

You are now going about 10% faster than your speedo says.

You are going about 10% farther than your odometer says.

Your torque converter is not locking as soon as it normally would.

Your torque converter is unlocking sooner than it normally would.

You now have a higher gear ratio (lower number).

Yes you have definately lost some mpg's, but maybe its not as bad as you think?

I am running 315's on my stock rims. I haven't recieved my smarty yet to recalibrate everything, what would the TC not locking up when it is supposed to equate to? Would it feel more sluggish? Recalibrating for tire size will fix the TC lock up times?

And yes!!! 10% is exactly right, I am off 10 km's on a 100km span.

Torque converter lockup on my truck stock should occur at around 50 mph under light or no throttle. It should unlock at 40. This is computer controlled. If your tires are the wrong size it screws up the computer and makes it lock later than it should and unlock earlier. You get maximum mpg efficiency when the torque converter is locked! Basically, it lowers your mpg's even more! If you get the right tire size calibrated it should get you a little mpg back.

yeah 35's with 3.55's are really going to slow things down and take alot more to get it going, 4.10's would be perfect.
