2nd Gen wheel questions.

It seems that Dodge has really posed a difficult question to all of us '94-'99 Ram owners.

I have a '95 4x4 5 spd w/ 12v.

I have the stock steel wheels. 16x6.5".
I want to run a a tire at least 33" like a 285/75/16 that is exactly 33". The 285 calls for a rim width of at least 7.5".
The best tire I can find that fits the 6.5" steel wheel is a 255/85/16. Toyo M/T. Though the Toyo has better load ratings than all other 255 tires by a 500 lb diff.

What I want to do is put '00-'02 stock alloy wheels or other 8" wide stock wheels from '03 and up?

I understand there are some fitment issues with drums. And some issue in the front. What about offset spacers front and back???

Any ideas?

I see this problem as a massive issue that many people face when trying to purchase new tires. The 6.5" wheel really screws things up. Even a 7" would be leaps and bounds better.

Any insight or info appreciated.

Thanks

Art

pick up a set of third gen wheels. they are 17's and you can easily run 12.50 wide tires on them. and they look amazing on 2nd gen trucks.

i have 285's on my stock 16s and they actually fit fine without much sidewall bulge at all like you'd expect with a narrow wheel.

Thanks for the info. The problem I'm having is that there is also the legal/lawsuit potential of the tire shop installing 285 tires on the 6.5" wheels. I know that most won't do it.

Thanks

I am running 315/75/16 on my stock wheels.

They actually look just fine and don't bulge that much at all.

buy your tires online (you'll save money anyway) and then find a little gas station that still has a service dept. those guys are cheaper and aren't as concerned about legal repercussions as the major chain tire shops. have them m/b your tires.
if you lived here, i'd do it for you at my shop but you're kinda far....
