stockers or 35s on snow or ice

should i keep my stock wheels "pizza cutters" with just highway traction or would 35 12.5 toyo mts be better for snow and ice?

Your stockers would be better for ice. If it's just deep snow, the M/T would be much better, but for driving around town, the skinny, siped stockers would be much better. I'm taking my Toyo's off for winter. Sadly.

Just get the treads on the Toyos fully siped and they will be great in ice and snow.

Costs about $10 per tire at Discount Tire and adds phenominal amounts of traction, especially on an M/T tire

That's a solid point. The only reason I stopped using siped mudders for winters was the cost. They don't last half as long as a normal winter tire, and cost about twice as much. But they do work great, and still look cool.

Otherwise a mud tire is just not built for slippery stuff. The lugs are too big, the tire is too wide, and it just doesn't work well. The ideal ice tire is skinny with lots of sipes.

Normally a good skinny tire is best on ice.. .but the OE tire is not a good tire, IMHO. They are too stiff to be a good ice tire, they are more of an ice skate.. so in this situation the Toyo MT's will be better, and yes have them sipped.

These trucks are heavy enough that a 35 won't be horrible.. IMHO an 11" tire is about perfect for an empty CTD... You can go wider, but it will be a little less stable or you need more weight.

Also reduce the psi from what you would run in the summer.. It greatly increases the traction.

well here ya go, i'm in casper wy, yes we just got 10 inches of the white crap sat night!!! and mud tires suck in hard pack snow or ice. had cooper stt's on for hunting season and whoa, slick...went back to the bfg, with lots of siping and narrower of course. the wider the tire the more surface area so the weight of the truck is spread out, less pressure on the slick stuff. that's why if you are ever in my neck of the woods all the old school ranchers are running those "pizza cutters", they get it done in the slick stuff,
