Stock 01 2500 - how big can I go?

How large can I go on the stock rims? Are they 16 x 6.5, 16 x 7, or some other size?

The stock tires are 245/75r16.

Also, how large can I go with aftermarket - truck has no lift.

you can fit a 33 in tire under there with no rub. but go any bigger and youll need some lift. just to give you an idea of tire size the stock tires would be considered 31s. the 245 is a metric measurement for the profile of the rubber itself not the overall diameter.

i run 35's on some h2's, stock height, and it will only rub at full lock...im gonna level it eventually but you will be plenty fine with the 35's if you keep the backspacing right

Would the 33's be 33x10, 33x10.5 or some other number? Having trouble finding them on tirerack or discounttires (thinking maybe they don't carry 33" at all).

Are the stock rims 16x7? Are there concerns with mounting a 10" (or larger) tire on a 7" wide rim? I'm guessing probably not as the calculators are telling me that the stock tire is 9.65" inches wide.

Sorry if these are stupid questions - I used to know most of this when I worked a service station, but it's been over 12 years and I've forgotten most of it.

:thumbsup33's are usually 12.5" wide (31's are 10.5")...i wouldnt go much over a 12.5" on a 7" wheel if i were you...it will work, but 8" is probally your best bet...just stick with the stock wheels now and you'll be fine untill you pop on a new set later

Thanks! Still debating what to do, but might have to just stick with the stock 245/75.

Was considering getting new wheels and moving up to 285's, but tire places are telling me that a 285 won't fit on the stock rim, so I'd need to buy another rim (and tire) for the spare.

If I stick with the 245 I can reuse one of the good tires as the spare.

I really want (not need) to go bigger, but I guess with the way the economy is going, it probably isn't the best idea to go out and spend $1400 on wheels and tires!

Well, I think I made the decision to go ahead and rim up. I already need new tires, so might as well get what I want......it's only money!

I'm torn between a couple of different rims:

Helo842 - black
AR23
AR Outlaw II
AR Baja
Raceline Rockcrusher

Leaning towards the Helo's, but the truck is white and I'm not sure how the black rims will look.

I'll be going with at least a 285/75/16 - it's only a couple $ more than the stock 245. They are only load D, but I don't tow, so I don't need the load E. I may go up to 305, depending on the price difference.

Now my only concern is getting the speedo and odo recalibrated. I'll be off by 8-10%. $700 for a Smarty isn't in the budget right now - at least not with the new rims and tires!

Does anybody know if any of the "truck places" offer this service, or can I just try to find somebody with a smarty and give them a few $ to reprogram? (Sorry if that's a stupid question - I don't know if the smarty is good for only one truck or can be used on multiple trucks.)

there are speedo calibrators out there for like $200.

i don't think smarty's vin lock will allow speedo calibration on other vehicles. i'm pretty sure you can only read and clear codes on other vehicles. i could be wrong though...

Well, I guess that is what I get for going to a tire place!

I don't doubt they will fit, but everything I find on-line says that I need at least an 8" wide rim for 285's.

To make matters even worse, most "tire" places won't override the computer and the stock tire size unless you are doing a +1 or +2.

Decided not to get new rims - just not in the budget right now Doesn't help that I can't get rid of my set of GM wheels and tires - selling those was going to pay for my new wheels!

Found a guy with a set of stock chrome-plated rims and stock nerf bars - price was too good to turn down. Not what I wanted, but they are better than the stock steel wheels and they will get me through the winter. I was really surprised to see that the wheels were only 16x6.5.

Went to get my tires today and was told they would only do the stock 245/75/16 or optional 265/75/16 because that is what the computer said.

Was kind of mad because the guy that sold me the wheels said he had 35x12.5 on there without any problems.

Already had 245/75 on there, so went with the 265. They still look small in the wheel well, but better than the 245.

I guess I could have bought the 285 and had them mounted at my buddy's shop, but I needed tires and they were 4 for the price of 3. Sticking with the 245 would have let me use one of the good tires as a spare, but I decided to risk it for now.

If I can round up another chrome wheel I will go back and get a spare and rotate all 5. If not I guess I'll check out the used tire places and see what they have in 265/75.

Guess I'll start saving and hope for a nice tax refund check next year, then I'll get some "real" tires on the truck!

stock chrome rims are 8"
running 295/75/16's right now (33.2) BFG A/T, and i'm wanting to go up to 315/75/16 (34.6) when these wear. I have rancho shocks, so i have about 1.5-2" of lift.
