What is the best largest tire for a 2005 ,2500
I am getting ready to purchase tires for my 2005 Cummins 2500. I heard that the new Michelin 285/70/17 were the way to go. I do a lot of highway driving not any off road. Can I get some opinions please?

The best - how much money are you wanting to spend? BFG all terrains appear to be one of the favorites and are long lasting (excess of 50,000 miles are common if rotated every oil change). I had a set of 315/70/17 on a half ton and they lasted long and wore good. There are other brands, but I am not familiar with. Every so often, check the classifieds in this forum - sometimes you can get a good deal. The largest (I assume your truck is a 4x4), so the largest without a lift is 315/70/17 on stock rims. There will a slight rubbing on the top front control arms. If you want no rubbing - go smaller 285s or 305s. If you tow heavy loads, you may want to consider 285s if your gear ratio is 3:73. Consult with someone who tows. With 315s, you may see an increase in fuel economy if you have 4:10s and see more highway miles than city driving.
