What are you nuts??? No safety issues.. A Bias ply tire will deform from the weight of the truck overnight. This causes flatspots, which can cause the vehicle to get out of control. That is the true meaning of deathwobble. If a person running bias ply tires on the street has not encountered this, they are very lucky.

There are a lot of tires out there that not many folks run, there are usually good reasons for this. If looks are what you are after check out the new Swamper SS-M16's, or the Crusher Radials.

If you want a good MT that works good on the street, consider running what everyone else runs.. That is why they run them.

Yeah Ive seen the M16's and the Crushers and theyre both different but not mean enough for what I want. The SSR's that I have now have a cooler sidewall I think. I do like the idea behind the M16's though. I have been told that about bias-ply tires before but my hubby said that he wasnt sure it was true. So I wanted to see what other people had to say. The guys that sell the tires swear to me that they will do fine. He says they run them down the highway with no problems....

Bias tires will flat spot in a matter of a few hours with just the weight of a half ton gasser. Usually takes about 5-10 miles to get enough heat in them to get them to round back out. Sucks. Also a very big problem with that causing the death wobble. Bias tires are great off road. But not on a driver. Period. It can be dealt with on a gasser cause the weight is so much less. But on a heavy a$$ deisel, forget it. I've had many swampers and other bias tires. All on a half ton. And it gets very old, very quick. Spend the extra cash and get radials.

Just a note, aggresive tires usually don't do as well in the sand and a mild All Terrain style. Hence the MT Baja tires, the nitto dune grappler, etc.... Mudders usually dig to much and burry themselves before moving foward. (I said "usually") Alot of it depends on the consistency of the sand.

Okay, I finally made a decision and ordered Toyo Open Country M/T 35x12.50R17 today. I wanted BFG KM2's but they are back ordered and Im impatient. I decided to wait on the 20's and see if PitBull comes out with a radial and get them then. I'll put up a pic after I get them put on tommorow. Thanks for all the help guys!

Okay I will. I only got 30,000 miles out of my SSR's but I liked the way they looked. Thats the main reason I bough them. I bought the Toyos today at discount for $300 a piece and then they have the full replacement warranty that they do. I bought it too because it is totally worth it! It was $42 a tire.

I guess I made it a bit too late, I was gonna suggest Cooper Discoverer STT's. I have had Coopers on a few trucks and had GREAT experence with them. A couple of guys I work with run the Toyo's, A/T though, and so far couldn't be happier.

i have putbull rockers on a solid axled ford explorer...i put about 30,000 on my rigs a year, back and forth from the ca to az...dont get them...they are a competition worthy rock tire...they pull all over the road, wear out super fast...ill get maybe 10,000 on them (keep in mind how much lighter the exploder is). No way would I get a bias ply for the highway...flat spots in the morning, they hate the heat of driving long distances. after 8 hours of highway driving, you can go look at pieces of shredded tire hanging there...if you do that much driving, by an AT but dont get that rocker unless you play in the dirt about 80% of the time.

I know they aren't nearly as aggresive but I used to have a set of Truxxus STS on one of my trucks and I think personally I have only seen 1 other truck with them. Not just where I live but I do a lot of traveling for my job (all around the midwest and I've been to Washington and North Carolina a couple times so I've seen a few trucks on my travels lol) I can't really comment on the reliability cuz I was younger and dumb and neglected to keep them balanced and rotated so they went to crap. But the were awesome in the snow and didn't do too aweful bad in the mud and pretty good in silty areas by the river I play at. Not too many people get the Baja Claws anymore either and both tires are unique looking (and radial) and a lot cheaper than all the other fairly new "bling bling" tires as I like to call them. And I'm not dissing the newer tires because as you can see I have the Baja MTZ's which I LOVE btw.
