19.5 or 22.5...

I am really tired of buying tires for my truck. I have looked into 19.5 and 22.5 rims to start running commercial. I would like the truck to sit up a little taller, but not so tall that i cant pull my Gooseneck Horsetrailer. Does anyone have experience with this?

I don't know about the 19.5s, but I know of guys using the 22.5s to pull gooseneck trailers. I have yet to find a gooseneck locally with the ball mount tall enough for me though. Also the tires are so big, that you will have to do a little trimming on the inside rear fenders to gain a little clearence if you do the 22.5s and a gooseneck, but it's nothing major and it's only an issue with a lot of weight on the trailer. I guess it really depends on your gooseneck height and how much adjustment you have left in the ball mount too.

I will say I love my setup and would do it again. The setup raised my truck 3" total not counting the leveling kit in the front. Every truck is different. The setup may not raise your truck the same as mine and you may not have to trim anything.

Hummmm, I don't know if I helped or not.

Ive got 6 Alcoas in 19.5x7.50 with 245/70R19.5 Cooper Roadmasters and they look like they were made for the truck. A bolt on affair.

I added some ATS front flares to balance out the mega cab DRW fenders

I regularly pull in the 17000 to 22000 CGVW range...

Bigger and I send the L9000 with the 318 Detroit/RTO 9513 and tandem 38000 Eatons

I just went through this....

It will be lots cheaper to do the 19.5s. You can get a set of the Eagle dually alloys for a grand. Throw in another 1.5k for tires and you are done. It will not drop the rpms by much, so no savings in fuel. The 22.5s will drop the rpms because the tires are about 6 inches taller in diameter. Good luck, Scott

With the 22.5s you will see a slight drop in rpms which leads to a slight increase in mpgs. With the straight drive trans you won't notice the rpm drop at all until you get in high gear. The 19.5s are cheaper, but the 22.5s look so much better. My personal opinion it was worth the extra money to get the look too.

Are you trying to tell me these are cheaper to run rather than what belongs on the truck, or are you trying to change tires less times. You are going to have to prove to me it is the first. If so, I would really think about a larger, proper sized truck , witch is going to be much safer.

These conversions are very safe. The idea is to buy tires less often and with the 150,000 mile rated commercial tires, you will get just that. Mine will dry rot before I get all the use out of them.:thumbsup
