New Tires Question

So my Current Dayton Timberline M/Ts 33" are starting to run low and i was thinking if i should just go with those again or if i should upgrade to something better like some SSR Super Swamper TSLs. After reading alot of reviews they seem to be about equal in evry category except for mud, in which case the SSRs excel. So should i go for the SSRs or the Timberline/Destinations?

I also recently found out that my truck doesnt have a leveling kit like a thought it did, so if i were to buy that could i go up to 35" without the need for any spacers and would it hurt my MPG because i believe i have 3.73(or is it 3.83?) gearing. My truck also has the HD package so without actually measuring it seems like its slightly taller than other 12v Cummins when i look at them side by side.

Thanks in advance.

the big question is do you do a lot of off roading? do you like a loud humming tire???? more then likely you have the 3.73 and if you go with a 35 you are more then likely rub like CRAZY i dunno is this on stock rims or aftermarket rims?

Check out the Cooper Discoverer STT for another good mud tire idea.

SSR swamper is a pretty quite tire for a swamper. i have had the TSL Radials on 3 of the 4 trucks i have owned and they didnt humm at all going down the road. when my STT's wear out im getting swampers for the dodge. just watch for load ratings.

I do as much offroading as i can and i dont mind if a tire hums or not because my current ones do that anyhow. Is the lower the letter the less strain you can put on the tires? E.g. a D can carry more than an E or is it opposite?

Check out Toyo Open Country MT's.

If you have your heart set on an Interco SSR or Firestone, I'd go with the SSR. A friend of mine runs 37" SSR's on his Stupid Duty, which is a daily driver. He puts a lot of miles on them and they seem to last him about two years. He also rotates them quite often.

What you want to look for is 10ply, 3ply sidewall, Load Range "E"... I also look for a minimum of 3640lbs carrying capacity per tire. Load range "D" is a lower rated tire than an "E".:thumbsup

Read the specs for what ever tire you choose. There is always fine print.

Thanks, and my current tires are D rated so im not to worried if its not an E rating. Although that would be a nice extra.

How many miles do you expect to get out of your Cooper STTs?

I used to say the same thing...D rated tires will sqirm around under the weight of a Cummins. They will wear out much faster, and are worthless if you plan to tow or haul a heavy load..

Anyway, just trying to save you the grief, and setbacks that I learned the hard way.

check out the trxus m/t...quite tire and more than holds its own offroad...and if you were wondering, the SSR is leaps and bounds above the firestone when it comes to leaving the pavement...it also has siping, which the firestone does not and that will make a world of difference in the ice or rain.

I should get 40k easy, and a I beat them pretty good. Coopers have always held up well for me. I've owned many Coopers on many different trucks.
