E Rated tire question

Does an E rated tire have a longer tread life than a D rated tire? Or is the Load rating the only difference.

Load rating is different only, well besides construction to get the load rating.

It seems to me, that the E load range are made of stiffer rubber. For me, the E load range tires have lasted the longest out of the two

D load will wear faster because of the additional stress - Load rating is created by the strengths of the sidewalls and layers of steel belts, it doesn't maintain the proper contact or flex causing premature wear.

that makes sense. they dont wanna get in trouble in you have a blow out because of the extra weight you could handle

it also seems to me that there isnt many options in at E rated tires at least for the size on my dually... and my dually eats them up pretty quick... the manufactor wouldnt warrenty any millage on the tires eighter because they are on a dually...

I just put Nitto Dura Grappler 285s on my truck. They are E-Rated and don't seem as wide as the same size in a BFG AT so I think you may be able to put those on your dually with no problems. I have a friend who has BFG ATs in a 265 that is E-Rated and they look much bigger than the standard 265s. You may want to look into those but they make them in different load ranges so you just have to make sure you ask for E-Rated....
