Need help on conversion

If my odometer says I ran 518 miles on a tank of gas with 315/70/17 tires... How many miles did I actually travel? Thanks

From the BFG website, 315/70/17 is 601 rev/mile, 265/70/17 is 658 rev/mile. Therefore, you went 1.095 miles for every 1 mile on your odo. Total miles traveled is 567.21 miles.

Okay, put your thinkin' caps on...

You would first have to determine what size tire your speedo is calibrated to. Then, determine the circumference of each size tire (C1 and C2).

Circumference = Tire diamater(in inches) X 3.14159

Divide 1691712 by each tire circumference (in inches) to convert to miles (C3 & C4), this should be a tiny decimal.

C3 = 1691712 / C1
C4 = 1691712 / C2

Next, Divide the mileage on your ODO (M1) by the "calibrated" tire circumference (C3, NOT C1). This will give you the number of rotations that the axle made over the trip (Call this R)

M1 / C3 = R

Now, Multiply the number of rotations (R) by the new tire cirumference (C4, NOT C2) and you will have the number of MILES that you actually traveled.

Kinda long, hopefully not confusing.

Just write down your numbers and follow the formulas. :thumbsup
