What is superfinish?

I was looking into some eagle alloys and they are available in either chrome or superfinish. What is superfinish? Do you have to polish it or is it a maintenence free alloy? One better then the other?

Heres what im looking at, do you like the 082 or 0824 better? I am leaning towards the 0824.. Eagle Alloy Wheels Series 082

They look pretty good. IMO, reguardless of whether or not superfinish is "maintenence free", you're truck looks like it'd be best off with chrome :thumbsup

BTW, had a set of Eagle's on the last truck...did a LOT of polishing

It looks like they are teh same wheel just one in chrome and one with black painted spokes and lips. Im assuming the "superfinish" refers to the painted parts. I could be wrong.

In engineering terms, superfinishing is a word used for something that is very very highly polished. I mean polished as in creating a surface that is free from defects to a measured degree, usually acheived with varying grades of diamond polishing compound.

Thanks for the replys. I emailed a dealer that sells eagle and here is what they said

"Superfinish shines just like chrome, but will never peel like chrome.
(they are a high polished aluminum)
As long as you keep them pretty clean, they should stay shiny for a very very long time."

But he also commented that alot of aftermarket 17" wheels may require some front brake caliper grinding on 04+ Dodge to make them fit. Has anyone else had this problem?

Which means you'll have to polish them...a lot

Shouldn't have to grind anything.
