Used BFG M/Ts worth it?
I found a set of used BFG M/T for real cheap and was thinking about getting them for my next set of tires. What do you guys think of them? I was going to go with Cooper STT's but these are used with only about 1000 miles on em' and they are a good deal. Should I still go with the new STTs or give the BFGs a shot? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

If you're getting them for a great price and they're in great shape..I'd do it, I've been happy with every set of BFG MT's I've ever used.

I've always loved BFG's. They're proven in competition and they look great. I, however, opted for the Firestone Destination MT (basically the BFG equivalent) They are rated the best in the mud terrain class in every way. Visit Consumer Survey Results By Category for more info. Although, I have to say that given your situation, I would most likely save some lettuce and get the BFG's.

If they're i n good condition and for a great price, I'd get em. I just picked a set of Goodyear Wrangler MTR's for a grand total of $55.

Well I just checked my email from the guy and here is what it says: They were originally on a 2001 F-250 Superduty 7.3L but, with large loads the truck would become squirrely in the rear end so stiffer radials (load range E) were used to correct the issue. Now I think the tires he runs are at 70psi and the BFG's were at 32psi. So my buddy sold them to me for just under what he paid at Tires Plus. When I mounted them on some hummer wheels (16.5 wheels x 10) two were perfect and two didn't seem to hold air over night when I put them on the vehicle. I wanted to put some bead sealer or green slim on the two that seemed to leak air, but Clark Tire of Fishers Indiana recommended that the hummer needed tubes put in the two since bead sealer usually fails during really cold nights or offroading with low air pressure. I think it was $35-ish per tire to mount them with tubes and it worked great for the month that I ran them. Then I graduated to some 38" boggers that I got for a killer price at The Badlands so now these 35's are just laying around my garage. The tires are not cupped at all and have 99% tread (still have blue tint on the raised white walls). What do you guys think about it now. I do not do much towing so I am not worried about that. But kinda worried about why 2 of them could not hold air..confused me.

What size are the tires? are they for a 16.5 wheel?

It could be his hummer rims that were the problem. On an old truck of mine, I did the same thing your looking at doing, I bought some 33" BFG A/T's off of a wrecked Ford Super Duty. When they first installed the tires, they were leaking air around the beads. They just rotated the rim inside of the wheel 1/4 turn and tried again. They worked great for years. The tire guy said that sometimes an imperfection in the bead, lines up with an imperfection in the wheel and they will leak air. So you just rotate the tire/wheel combo to fix it. Also, the M/t has "Single strand beads (a single strand of bead wire is continuously wrapped multiple times until the desired strength is provided) enhance the tire’s fit to the wheel to improve uniformity and ride quality, while rim protectors molded into the lower sidewall help shelter the tire and wheel from off-road hazards, especially during aired down situations." That are designed to give you a good tire-to-rim fit.
