Remanufactured tires

Have any of you used remanufatured tires on your truck? I have used them on dump trucks and over the road trucks but never on my daily drive/tow rig.

I am not talking about retreads, but total remnufactured tires.

Give me some input please.

Retread is no longer done. What they do now is take the tire and shave it down and apply new plies of rubber to the side wall area and tread area. they then vulkanize (spelled way wrong) the rubber and make the tread design in a mold. They "say" they are the same as a new tire and most have the same warranty.

Here is a link to how they do it. On company i have heard about does not have the size I run on my truck.

They still do retreading. I had a set of D-Mud tires from TreadWright, Inc. - Retread Tire, Green Diamond Tires Only had them for 6 months, but they were a quality tire as far as I could see. They're a retread, great reviews on four wheelin' magazine. I'm considering them again for next time.

From many years experience running 10.00 x 22, and later 11 x 24.5 big rig tires, I have come to the conclusion heat is what gets most tires. If a tire is properly inflated, not overloaded, usually it will live, unless an impact break. Now do a check on how many revolutions per mile one of these big rig tires make, versus your 16 or 17 inch tires. I noticed a major difference in tire temperatures when towing with a 2 nd gen 16 inch set of tires and the 15 inch 5 th wheel trailer tires. The 15 inch trailer tires would be so hot you could not rest your hand on the sidewall, while the as heavily loaded 16 inch truck tires were not more than warm, and not at all uncomfortable to put your hand on. With that in mind, knowing how fast those smaller tires have to rotate, how hot they will get, no retreads, or what ever they desire to call them, for me. Not only will your be changing out tires regularly, but you will also be replacing fenders, and other body parts they beat off, while coming apart. I've had a retread come off, and beat a large hole through a very solid 2 inch floor, breaking the treated wood flooring and bending up the cross braces. By new, and the best quality you can find, it's cheaper in the long run.

That is the company that has made me think about it. The only problem is they do not carry my tire size

Like I said, I only had mine for 6 months, but I did haul a trailer that weighed about 6,500lbs from Montana to Oklahoma with no problems. Hey, it was with my 1990 F-250 with a 302 gasser and a 5spd. 6500lbs was a lot, lol. I do think that heat is what messes with retreads as well, but Hi-Tech Retreading (apparently now named TreadWright) does a much better job of applying the tread so it lasts much longer and is a quality product.
I'm not saying they are a miracle, or even the best option, just a suggestion that I have used in the past. If you get them, consider siping them, I did mine when they installed them and I think it gave them better ice traction and supposedly gives them better tread life. Might dissapate some heat as well???
