Has anyone tried the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor? I am looking at 285/70R17 8ply D-load Max. 3195 @65 psi vs 265/70R17 E-load 10 ply Max. 3195@80psi. Can somebody help, I like the taller tire but it doesn't come in an E-rating. The sidewalls are the same plys can these tires handle the same load?

i am no expert, but I think if you want a taller tire you need to look at the middle number.the first number is the width, and the second number is the height of the tire from the ground to bottom of the rim

Plus with the diesel you are going to need a ten ply.I run at least 65psi in the front tires at all times,50psi in the rear when I am m/t and 80psi when I haul any real weight.Go with cooper if you can

shotgunner, Thanks for the replys. This is what I have been able to determine about tire height.... "Sidewall Aspect Ratio Typically following the three digits identifying the tire's Section Width in millimeters is a two-digit number that identifies the tire's profile or aspect ratio. P225/50R16 91S The 50 indicates that this tire size's sidewall height (from rim to tread) is 50% of its section width. The measurement is the tire's section height, and also referred to as the tire's series, profile or aspect ratio. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall; the lower the number, the lower the sidewall. We know that this tire size's section width is 225mm and that its section height is 50% of 225mm. By converting the 225mm to inches (225 / 25.4 = 8.86") and multiplying it by 50% (.50) we confirm that this tire size results in a tire section height of 4.43". If this tire were a P225/70R16 size, our calculation would confirm that the size would result in a section height of 6.20", approximately a 1.8-inch taller sidewall." I would try to go with a E rating if your towing often. A friend recently installed a set of 285/70/17 GY Silent Armors and is complaining of sidewall flexing when towing. And the pressures is set at 65psi. Never had that issue with the stock Michelins. He will be going back to a E rating next time around. MikeyB

Myself, i would go with pro comp a/t. I have the extreme a/t in load range E. They are by far the best tire I have ever owned. Ive gone in deep mud and snow that goes up the side of my door and they had no problem. My buddy has the a/t and he loves them. On his 2nd set. Great traction, great load ratings and very good wearing. Oh, and also Pro Comp tires are alot of the time buy 3 get one free. Thats when I buy my tires. The next one is usually in march. Another tire you could look at if you are looking for more aggressive is the Firestone Destination M/t. Yea, i know its a m/t but my buddy has them on his truck and he gets 65k plus on a set of tires. They are either a E or D load range. I would also look at a cooper...ive heard alot of good things about them also.

Thats what Im running. Good all around tire but I got 1 flat already. To its credit, It was holding a steady 85mph with about 10 psi when my buddy finally could catch me to let me know it was almost flat.
