Question bout H2 wheels, and 315's
I have an 04 and was wanting to get some H2 wheels, and tires, but was wondering if H2 wheels with 315/70/17's will rub with stock suspension. The reason I ask is, I found a good deal on a wheel tire set and the tires are BF Goodrich At's, and are like new........ Any info would be greatlt appreciated.... Thanks a lot!!....... Jesse

I had to help my brother in law add a leveling kit to clear his 315/75/17 tires on aftermarket wheels. I am not sure if you can clear without a leveler on this setup or not.

My H2s and 35x12.50X17s fit without rubbing even before I put my leveling kit on.

If the 315-70-17's are BFG's,sell them. Apply income to machining the wheels and buying some Toyos.

The centers need cut but there are links in other threads like this one on how to do it. All you need is a router and a carbide tipped cutter with some oil and it will do the job just fine.

thanks!!
Hey thanks guys, I saw on here how to romove the material on the wheels with a router, and that is what I planned on doing,,,, I was just unsure if those tires would rub up front, without a leveling kit........... Also,, is the "D" rated tires okay,,, I don't do alot of hauling, or towing,, but thought that the "E" rated tires would have less sidewall flex, with the extra weight of the diesel, when going around turns, and such.......... Lemme know what ya's think........ Thanks a lot!.......... Jesse

I am on my second set and the first lasted 55K. Yes, you will get slightly more sidewall flex, but that isn't necessarily indicative of the strength of the sidewall. You will notice it the most going around turns, but these things aren't sports cars either and shouldn't be driven as such. Run the fronts at the tire's max pressure of 50 psi due to the weight. Run the rears anything above 40 psi (I run mine at 45-46 psi). I put it up to 50 psi if I am hauling heavy. Before my KORE upfront, the 315s barely rubbed with stock wheels in the first place. After KORE, no rub. I am certain that the H2s will not rub on stock suspension. And I have never had the first hint of death wobble (crossing fingers as I type this).

Alrighty then
Hey thanks a lot!.... I will probly go head and get the tires and wheels.......... As far as the death wobble goes,,haha,,,, I have never had it nore seen it, until just the other night,, I was on the highway,, and this black newer cummins came barreling up behind me,,,, and I figure he saw the 4" MBRP duals on mine, and new I had a cummins, so he pulled up next me, at this time I knew it was a cummins, with atleast an exhaust on it,,,, so, i started hitting the up arrows on my TST box, and he smashed on it, and so did I,,,,,,, we only went for bout 1/8th mile, then we had to get off an exit,,,,, anyhow I started to gain on him,, and then i let off, and let him go past,, it was night time,, and I looked over and saw his taillights doing one heck of a dance, up and down, along with his bedsides..... I thought, what the heck is going on with his truck,,,, then my lights shined on his front tire,,, and that thing was wobbeling so bad it scared the crap outta me..... He musta hit a bump in the road, or somethin to cause it, I dunno,,, but that was my first experience with "death wobble"....... I'm just glad it wasn'y my truck, haha!......... Just thought I'd share that with ya, since you mentioned it......................... |

I've read about it with stock wheel/tire configurations as much as aftermarket equipment. Its a nature of the type of antiquated front suspension we have. There are lots of little things that can be done to exacerbate or prevent DW from occurring. Tires are only one part of the equation.
