i cant speak for toyos but im verry happy with my terra graplers. i just got my 2nd set yesterday. i tow 5 days a week(7000lbs) and snow plow in winter. 1st set lasted 34000 miles and still have 1/4 tread on them
pros/ even wear/good life span/graet handling on wet or dry roads/no sway towing
cons/ they are not the greatest tire in snow or mud, they load up fairly quick
i run 295/70/17

My Nittos (305/50/20) lasted all of 35,000 miles on my two trucks with not much rotating to speak of. I ended up selling them and they still had better then 1/3 thread on them. Rode good in snow, rain, mud, all year round. Absolutly no complaints here.

The Terra Grappler has a slightly more aggressive looking sidewall. I have a set of 295/70/17 and i love them. I plow all winter and with these tires I have been able to push back evey snowbank I've leaned against. I would certainly buy them again and recommend them.

Did you have to add a leveling kit for the 295x70x17

Did you have to add a leveling kit for the 295x70x17? My new wheels and Nitto Terra 295x70x17 tires arrived today and they look that they will rub on the front.I have not put them on yet because of that and I have no lift kit on my 2007.

i dont have a leveling kit. im running stock rims. i have 7 3/4" clearance on top and 4 1/2" give or take a little from the tire to bumper and the fender. i wouldnt worry at all. i cant even get mine to rub with the wheel cranked. i even plow with the trk its a pretty heavy v plow and still plenty of clearance. let me know how it goes.

I work at a tire shop here in Texas and have seen several sets of both tires come in and out over the years adn have used sets of both on personal vehicles.

More than half of the people I know who ran Toyos (including myself) will never go back to running the ATs again. They have one of the shortest running lives of any tire I have ever encountered and that is coming from seeing every type of driver use them from burnout specialist to granny who cant seem to ever find the pedal on the right.

Nittos have much better feedback. They come in many more sizes with the load range E. They have a more aggressive looking sidewall and tread design that has very good results in the offroad elements. They are a softer tire however as someone already stated. What this means is that when all of us power crazed guys go around doing burnouts it eats the tire away a lot faster than it would if you were running a tire with harder rubber. On the other hand many people who come into our shop get more miles out of these tires than any others they run (including myself). I am currently on my second set of terra grapplers. With my first set of nittos I doubled the miles out of them that I got out of both BFGs, the stock Michelin's, and Toyos.

But it all comes down to personal preference. Everyone on here is gonna have their own opinion ad horror story or praise for one or the other but I hope I have helped ya'll out a little bit.

Everyone keep in mind that the original post was asking pros and cons about NITTO TERRA GRAPPLERS and TOYO OPEN COUNTRY A/T's.

The toyo he is inquiring about is not the badass M/T that every has or wishes they had (including myself). Those tires are a completely different story and an all around awesome tire.

My CTD had new Nitto Terra Grabbler on it when I bought the truck.

I was supprised how fast they wore out.

I personaly dont like them because they are soft rubber and rear out fast. I drive conservatively and they are worn out with 25,000 mi.

That said, Im used to BF goodrich KOs that I have always run on my other trucks. Id say BF's will wear 3 times the milage of nittos
