265's 0r 285's

Looking at tires and I would like to hear from anyone that went to a 285 75 16. I have 265 75 16 now and I want to know if there was a noticeable power difference or mpg difference. I tow some so I don't want to lose alot of mpgs. I am looking at Michelins LTX AT2, GoodYear Silent Armour ( if they make a 285), or Toyo At.
Your thoughts please....

The Michelins are supposed to be great tires. As far as a mpg loss, you will loose some, maybe up to 2 miles but your ride may be a little better with a bigger tire. Power decrease, not much to speak of. You may look into getting your speedo recalabrated with the 285's. It will be off a bit. Hope that helps.

The factory speedo always reads high. Get the taller tires. I went to 315 75 r16 and mine's off, reads low. But when I ran 285s it was dead on. Because the speedo is off, the mpg #s will be off. It will look like you did better before, but the #s lied before. I think you will do about the same on mpg with those tires. Spreads out your shifts too. Unless you start in 2nd. It becomes tall to start in 2nd with the bigger tires. I run almost the same rig but a duallie. It's kind of like having a taller ratio. Which for long hauls lowers your rpm. Oh and I am 3.55/six speed.
