Don't get the Nittos, they aren't any better. I've got the 285/70/17s on my truck and they won't make 20,000 miles. With 7000 miles on them they are about 1/2 gone.

Make sure you look at the toyo m/t's before you buy because they make a racing tire out of softer rubber in the same design. They look the same, but say on the sidewall "for off-road use only, use only for racing". I saw a set on ebay that was going for $200 for the set, but the pics showed they were the same thing with the off-road only on them. Just my thoughts.

Toyo has 2 sizes in 285 for a 17... 285/75/17 (34x11.50R17) and 285/70/17 (33x11.50R17).. Both come in "E" rating and can take 80 psi.. And unlike many comperable tires they have a 40K mile warranty... and as fast as diesel chew tires on dirt thats a good thing..

I am looking at a 3/1 lift and running the 285/75/17's... should still have room to clear the HD chains I need to run for elk hunting.

I have run BFG AT's (265/70/16, 33x10.5R15), Toyo AT's (265/70/17, 285/75/16).. The BFG's have a little better traction all around, and seem to wear a little better... For most everyday uses I like the toyo's, and when the going gets tought the tough chain up ... So then tread is a supplement...

I would really prefer to run the toyo MT or the new BFG KM2's... but based on my hi dirt road miles I cant afford to replace the tires every 15K miles (what my dad wore his first set of toyos out in, 06 CTD)... but the warranty was a good thing, only had to buy 2 tires to get 4 new ones.. if they had been BFG or Toyo MT's he would have had to buy 4 tires....

So... with all that I will be running Toyo AT's... unless I find something else with at least a 40K mile warranty....

Anybody have pics of a truck with the 285/75/17's? I've caught the tire bug again and can't decide.

Thanks Hump!! Nice looking rig. I think those are the tires I have to find.

Are those Power Wagon fender flares? I really like the look of 'em.

I'm goin' E-bayin!! They look like the flares I had on my last truck. I hate it when guys have huge fender flares without the tires to fill them out. I think you have the perfect combination of tire size and flare.

I'd love to go with big flares and 35's, but my situation doesn't lend itself to that set-up. I pull heavy everyday and don't want to push 35's and pull 10,000lbs.

Thanks for the info Hump!!!

Thumbs up 05hummincummins

Leveling kit is actually aftermarket front coil springs (no spacers) from Sky Jacker. They give me an additional 1 1/2" of lift for the front. The rear is bone stock suspension.

Wheels are Helo Maxx size 17x9 with 4.5 offset and -12mm backspacing.
