Help on Single Wheels for my Dually

2006 Mega Cab 3500 Dually 4X4, 2 1/2" Hell Bent Steel leveling kit on the front...don't tow a lot and would like to go to a single wheel setup...I've seen some pictures on this forum and online of trucks set up like that, but haven't found any info on how they do it.

I would assume for the back wheels I could go with any 8-lug wheel that has the right bolt pattern and is 10-12 inches wide or wider, and add a spacer so the wheel / tire would be pushed out and aligned with the edge of the fenders...?

Then on the front, what would I need to do, since a regular 8-lug wheel doesn't have the same offset / backspacing as a drw?

Also would mention than I'm not interested in the "super single" setups...can think of better ways to blow $4,500...the rigs I've seen that I like look like they have four 8-lug non drw wheels, with a wider rim / tire in back and narrower rim / tire up front (matching rims styles / tire brands / tire diameters).

Any help or thoughts from anyone who knows how to do this is much appreciated. Thanks!

your going to almost HAVE to go with a super single to
get the rear tire out even with the fender lip. measure
how wide your dually tires are and that about what
width rim your going to need.

What if I put a 3" spacer on the back, and then mount a wheel with some negative offset onto the spacer? Wouldn't that in effect move the wheel out towards the edge of the fender without having to go with a 14" or wider rim?

However, the front wheels have a lot of positive offset, don't they? How would that work?

Reason for my madness is wanting to mount taller tires, which don't fit really well on a dually's 6.5" wide rims....most tall tires (33" and above) seem to need a rim that is 8-10 inches wide, at least.

Thanks for the reply!

the front dually spacer is what gives the wheel
the positive offset. personally, i would think
that running a 3" spacer on the back would be
a safety concern. thats putting huge amount
of tension on the lugs.

not sure though..

I second Elephant there, on the 3" rear spacer, there are some options for wide rear tires, if you get a bigger rim 20-22 you can get a 12-14" wide rim and run a 15"+ tall mud type tireand it may fill everything out decently

and this is a much cheaper solution then going with super singles which are only 10" wide which is a waste of money. i just ordered 33x15.50 mtz for 1300 including shipping mounting and balancing

Depending on what tire your looking to go with find the tire you want and make the wheel to fit. I just set a set of 16x7 rear dually wheels to tim smith of wheel works out of new jersey and had them widened to 14" so I could run a 33x16.5x16 mt drag slick on my dually. He did a really good job but this particular wheel safety bead wasnt made for a slick and was super difficult to get the tire on. I did lots of reasearch before I finally decided to have mine done. Cost was around 800 after shipping as compared to a custom wheel from colorado custom wheel for around 1k a wheel. Basicly tim took the outer rear wheel and added 7 inches to the inside to keep the right offset etc. They look sick mounted on the truck shoot me a pm with an email and ill send you some pics I tried posting them but says files to large. Hope this helps a little.
