Difference?

Ok so i got a question can i fit a 325 60r 18 onto an
18x8.5 or do i have to go with a 305 60r 18? and why is it the 305 is smaller but more expensive? Everything i have read says the 325 is for a 9in wide rim to 12 in wide? WHat you guys think?
