Wheels off of an 01 on a 99???

So my buddy had a set of alloy wheels off of his 01 2500 that he had sitting in his shed. He has no use for them so he gave them to me. I had a bad seal in the tail shaft of my transfer case so I had to take the truck to my buddies shop. My stock wheels are the steel wheels with the chrome face. They are a little rusty so I thought we would throw the alloy wheels on it. So we spend like an hour mounting up my tires on the new wheels, go to put them on and they wont clear the tie rods! I couldn't believe it! Are there alloy wheels that will fit a 99 2500 that are stock. I kind of wanted to stay stock because I don't want to go any bigger or any of that nonsense for now because I cant afford the tires right at the moment. The only thing I could think of was mine has the dana 80 and his has the dana 70 axle. I was surprised. Maybe this was already known but I couldn't believe it.
