Tires on stock rims

I just finished reading the thread on 35" tires on stock rims and am thoroughly confused. The goo new is that's not my problem. Mine's a little simpler in that I'm deciding between Toyo Open country AT in either the 285/70R-17 (33" tire) or the 285/75R-17 (34" tire). I do a fair bit of hiway driving and towing (10.5k lbs) so I'd like a tire that works nice on road with some traction off road (for sand camping, etc). I have a bone stock suspension and with the squad that my TH puts in the truck, I don't think a want to level the front end. Will either of these tires rub. I have the stock alloy wheels that came with the truck.

Nope. Have had both sizes on my dad's '05 with no problems. He is currently running the 285/75s and is much happier with them versus the 70 series Toyos. Bone stock suspension wise...

you will not get rubbing on anything but the control arms, and this is a maybe and will only be at full lock, with either of those two tires. One thing to keep in mind when going to this larger tire and towing is that to maintain that nice rpm you liked to tow at is now going to be probably 8-10mph higher. I see you have a 3500 so you possibly have 4.10 gears where I have 3.73's. So you might need someone else to comment on this. But I went from stock to 35" toyo m/t and 2 rpms was around 80mph. And thats where my truck seemed to really like to pull at. But you also have a different transmission and possibly different gear ratio, I have the 4spd auto.

What kind of a fuel mileage loss do you suffer from going to these bigger tires? Not only is there added weight from being taller they also are a bit wider... so does it make a notable difference?

i picked up mileage when i went to 315's from 285's. taller tire= lower gearing= lower rpms on highway= mileage gains.

I went from 33s to the stock tire about a 30.5 and I lost 1mpg and about 8mph at the same rpm on the highway

255/85/16 fits on stock 16 rims and lists as 33.8" tall. Actual height is 32 and change. I ran these for a few yrs on my 2500hd with no rubs and no problems. I've also used the same size on expeditions and suburbans on stocker wheels.
