19.5 Rim Question
For those members that are running 19.5 rims on a 2500 SRW, what increase was there in fuel mileage and what if any changes did you notice in the braking and overall handleing of the truck? Thanks.

i can't answer your ? on a single wheel, as for the duallys i run 19.5"s on. you will gain a little mpg on the hwy, but you loose a little in town, stop and go traffic due to the increased rotational mass. as for braking, i have seen no difference.

Nobody wants to admit their mod isn't an improvement. I can tell you that larger tires giving you better economy because of lower rpm is a myth. I went from the stock wheels to a dually with steel 19.5's and 245/70R19.5 tires. The steel is heavy though, and the tires are drives (harder on fuel than the smooth ribbed tires). Stock new I was getting 15.6 mpg hand calculated on the freeway. I cannot get over 13 mpg no matter how slow I drive. In fact, most of my driving is averaging 11-12mpg. I am selling the steel wheels to change to 6 forged aluminum in an attempt to increase my mpg. If that doesn't work, I'll try the smaller lighter 225/70R19.5's. Garry |
