Wearing the outside shoulders?

I stopped in a shop the other day looking for some Hankook 295/70/17's (which I think will fit???).
The guy at the counter told me I would wear the outside shoulders off the tires because of how wide they are when using the stock rims.
So is this a true statement, or was he just trying to sell me something else, because he did not have what I wanted?

Im not 100% sure but isn't that size pretty much equivelant to 35"x12.50"x17???? If so no problem. I could see if it was 14.50" wide or larger but not 12.50" wide on a 9" wide wheel.

Actually it would be closer to a 33x11.5x17

calculated it comes out at 33.2 x 11.6

No you will not wear the outside shoulders off unless you under inflate them. Keep them inflated to 50+ and you'll be fine.

Worn balljoints will cause edge wear though.
