differences in D/E ratings

looking at some tires ratings, some are rated say 2990lbs as a D rated or 3100 as an E rated.

would the D rated tire be sufficient aslong as im under the weight rating? will the D rated wear faster as the same tread wear rated E tire?

i got D rated Firestone Destination A/T's, no problem w/ em at all, they are wearin damn good...
