Warped steel rims?

So I took my truck up to discount tire today for some new shoes..

Decided to go with the BFG Commercial T/A since I want a tire that should (in theory anyways) last quite a long time.

When they were balancing them the tech asked me to step outside with him and take a look at something. He said the rim itself was bent (out of round?)... Kicked on the balancing machine pretty slow and I watched the tire move up and down a little bit as it spun...

Does this sound right? I'd assume these rims would be pretty heavy duty considering what they are on... Or could it have been the tire and he didn't have one to replace it so he didn't want to mess with it?
