Dunlop Rover M/T Maxx Traction

I am shopping for tires for my 04.5 2500 & want a tire that is in between the AT & the MT..a tall order especially for an 18" wheel.

Dunlop recently released the Rover M/T Maxx Traction.

Dunlop Tires | Catalog | Rover M/T Maxx Traction

anyone have any direct experience with these yet?

please refrain from posting opinions on OTHER tires; I am asking about THESE ones...thanks.

bump

bump this to the top.

this really looks like a good tire to me; basically a well siped mud terrain tire with some AT characteristics...filling a niche in the tire world.

This tire was just introduced at SEMA in March but by now someone has to have a set on their truck.

feedback please

I was looking at the older Dunlop Mud Rover tires a couple years back. They got really good reviews and were pretty cheap for what I was looking at. The only downside I could find in the reading I did was some mild complaints about keeping them balanced. They tend to need balanced once in a while I guess.

Overall they sounded really good. There was an offroad magazine that did a good writeup on them. They liked them

Not sure if this tire will act the same.

Tires in Play

well I have had these for about a month & put about 1000 mi on them so far on pavement, gravel & in mud.

So far the tires are everything I hoped they would be. Road noise at 70 mph is acceptable, ride is smooth & tires balanced easily. In light offroading they are sure footed & in the mud they are doing the job.

I have the 275 70 18s on Deveno 772s 18" x 9". Dunlop is adding more tire sizes & likely there is something that will fill your needs. These are a Load Range E tire.

I'll get back to you when I have more miles on them; I suspect they will have a short life because the tire compound is soft & they started out with only 18/32nds of tread. However at $100 per tire cheaper than the Dick Cepecks FC 11s I am happy with them. I think they will be a great winter tire too because of the sipping & the softness of the rubber.

I did it to

Nice pics , I also bought a set and so far like them , $80.00 rebates not bad either..that funny bump on the side below the tread has me wondering how it will react off road if it hits something sharp

Put some dyna beads in there and you will never have to balance your tires again. Here's their site Tire Balancing Products

I used them in my 33 MTs and i never had to balance them after the original fitting and balance. It cost about $25-30 a tire depending on the size, but hey, if you never have to get them balanced again, its cheaper in the long run.

update - First Rotation

Just wanted to update you all on these tires at my first rotation. I got home from wellsite in NE British Columbia on Thursday night & had the wheels / tires rotated on Friday.

I have clocked 13,000 km (8000 mi) on these tires so far. The tire shop owner handled this himself & the tires look awesome. All tires show very even wear with no cupping, just some slight feathering along the edges from the gravel I run. All 4 tires have 16/32 of tread remaining (started with 18/32). Two of the wheels needed a slight rebalance while the other two were still in balance. We moved the backs straight upfront & cross rotated the fronts to the rears.

I had started out with 60 lbs air pressure in all four tires but I seldom carry much weight so I had dropped the rears to 54 lbs at the 10,000 km mark. We set the tires up at 60 front & 50 rear & I am going to run them another 10,000 mi then rotate then again. So far so good with these Dunlop Rover Maxx Traction tires.

Kelly (owner of Country Tire) tells me he has sold numerous sets of these Dunlops since my test mule set that we put on my truck last summer. Every customer so far is pleased with the all around performance of these tires. I can drive further offroad in 2wd with these tires than I could in 4wd with my 325 60 18 Toyo Open Country ATs (note the toyos probably would have perfomred better in a 285 width).

I will add (as I have posted elsewhere) that I was tempted to jump over to the Goodyear Duratracs to get 295 65 18s when these Dunlops wear out but after seeing the Crew truck on my Rig blow away those tires after only 7 months on the same roads than I am driving I will not buy the Goodyears. The Duratracs on that F350 crew cab have 22,000 km on then (14,000 mi) running exactly the same roads as me & they are more than 50% worn plus I know that the tiress were rotated when that truck was in Grande Prairie AB for service. Come break up in April when the frost comes out of the ground & we are still drilling on our next well that crew truck will be needing new tires or it will be stuck in the mud daily.

If you are looking for an AT / MT hybrid for your truck consider these Dunlop Rover Maxx Tractions. So far they seem to be miles ahead of the old Dunlop Rovers (aka JUNK) & are fairly priced compared to other AT / MT hybrids (like Duratracs & DC FC 11s).

I will update this again next rotation in 10,000 mi.

these tires look very promising! I just priced some 315/70/17's and they come in at...............270 a tire.
Is that a good deal?

I would say that since Discount Tire (the sponsor of this forum) has the Maxx Tractions in 315 70 17s for $222 US per tire that NO that is NOT a good price.

315/70-17 Dunlop Tires

Hope this helps.

You are welcome...glad to help.

I have pestered Dunlop to add additional sizes to their catologue. I would really like them to make the tire available in a 295 65 18 like the Duratracs. That would keep the tire tread just under my power wagon flares yet fill out the wheel well a little better. The 275s are just a little too narrow for my liking & I do not want to move up to their 325 65 18s. Even a 305 65 18 like BFG offers would be OK too or a 295 70 18 would be dandly too for a little more ground clearance.

I had 325 60 18 Toyos previously & hated the super stiff ride that the short sidewall yielded & that width sucked for tossing rocks past my flares plus the truck was a death trap on ice. I will not run a 60 series tire again. 65 or 70 series for me.

What size are you getting for your truck?
