Help with Wheel and Tire Sizing

Appreciate any help. I am looking to upgrade to after market wheels and tires on my 2005 2500 Quad. Originally I was looking at 17" but am being told I need to do 18" b/c 17" won't fit over the caliper. If I do 18", will 305/60/18 fit without rubbing or will I need a leveling kit. Any and all help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

that tire would be fine, its only like a 32-33 inch tire. but im confused on the 17" wheel not clearing the caliper. do '05's come with 17's stock? i know 06's do

that tire size should be ok unless you have a really wide rim and a big offset.. but 17s are on stock from 03 but i have herd of some aftermarket 17s not fitting cause the calipers.. but you can run a 17 and probably shouldnt have a problem

Yes, it did come stock with 17" but the calipers are pretty tight. I was looking at a 17" x 9" XD Series Wheel which looks to have a 0 offset. Would 305/65/17 be the way to go then?

whats the backspace? I would say it might be close but if it rubs i am not sure what intentions you have todo to your truck but a level kit would for sure make them fit and give a great look... i would stick with the 305 60 probably not sure how much taller that 65 is but the rim makes allot of difference in clearing over a stcok wheel cause i run 315 70 17 and no rub but its very close.. I believe my buddy has a 325 55 18 on his stock height 03 2500 ram with no rub and thats a wider but lil shorter then what your looking at so i would think they would work, your 305 65... His is on aftermarket rims as well and stick out about 1.5 inch..

The backspace is 5" on these particular wheels. To be safe maybe I should go with the 18" x 9" and use the 305/60/18. That sounds like it may work all around right? Appreciate all the help. By the way what else should I be doing to add some performance to this beast?

yeah u should be good 17 or 18 but myswell go a little bigger and do the 18s.. I imagine its a CUMMINS... do an exhaust turbo back and intake and chip of your choice but edge with juice is a great user friendly option.. You will probably be happy with the power and if not this is the site for you to find out a whoooole lot more to do haha

Thanks Studdish.....what is your opinion on tires..I am looking at either Pro Comp XTreme AT or MT and the Mickey MTZ or ATZ. I want something that will be friendly on the road but handle snow with major ease.

I have ran many bfg all terrain and i did like them but after having the mtz tires i dont think i am ever running an at tire again.. The mud tires dont pick up rocks as bad and i drive dirt roads often.. The MTZ is honestly my first mud tire on any of my trucks i have had and i LOVEM!!! The look they have and i am gettin great tire life as long as i dont put the throttle down but my buddy has 30k on his mtz's on his cummins and they are slightly under half life.. They like to be rotated every 3-5k miles for best life... I dont have much experience with pro comps but my buddies mts seemed to where fast and he does allot of highway driving... The atz's are sick tires but if you go on dirt roads they pick up rocks like none other! So my opinion between your choices i would get the mtz's, Oh i had them mtz's in some deep drifted snow and man they were awesome, i started hitting bigger and bigger spots of snow about up to 15 inches and ripped right throw it and from when i had at's on they seemed to not do as good cause they get packed in with snow and dont clean out like a mt tire... The mtz's arent to noisy but they do let you know you are running a mud tire. I just really love the mtz tires and dont think they can be beat just overall looks and performance.. Toyo mts probably are great but everyone has em and i am just not a fan of there side wall design. Hope i helped LOL

That is super helpful, thanks. I am on dirt roads enough and I my BFG picked up a ton of rocks all the time and they sucked badly in the snow. I think the best bet is the MT's. I looked at the Toyo but I hear the life is not nearly as good as ProComp or Mickey. The MTZ is a pretty sick looking tire and I think you get 50k out of them easy. Appreciate everything.

50k i think is a very respectable number for the mtz has my buddy has half life and atleast 30k miles on his.. i had mine for like 7k now and havnt wore too much but i have allot of burnouts and racin on em to haha... not a problem
