LT285/70/17 on 06 Mega Cab 3500

I have been keeping up with this forum for a couple of months now knowing that my factory Michelin 265 E rated tires are completly treadless at 40K miles. I have read all the reviews etc. on the E and D rated tires etc. but dont understand why one person may get 15K out of a tire and another gets 60K out of the same tire? At any rate, I need a tire that will last and want to go up to a 285. Im would like an all terrain but am not apposed to a hwy tire. My truck is an 06 3500 mega cab 4x4 fleet side. Has anyone experienced the Hankook Dynapro tire? It comes in a LT285/70/17 that is an E rated 10 ply. Or how about the Nitto tires? Thanks in advance for any input.

i have nitto terra grapplers in 285's. they run good so far. too early to tell what kinda mileage i'll get. if i get 40k or better i'm going back with them due to the ride i am getting from them and they are e-rated.

welcome aboard bud & enjoy your stay. the mileage diff. that people are stating is caused by the right foot & also if you do alot of off roading or not. rotation & proper tire pressure are the key's. NITTO makes a great tire!!! fill out your location & sig.

I guess I would be better off just not reading the reviews and get something I like. I am leaning towards the Nittos myself.
I have always thought of Michelin as a great tire, one that I couldnt afford, but this factory set is worn about bald at 40K. My brother had the same tires on his 1/2 ton mega cab, not 4x4, and got almost 60K out of them and so did a buddy of mine with a 3500 quad cab 4x4. My brother only rotated his tires once at 35K. Go figure hu? Im on the highway most of the time and drive like my grandpa, heck I hardly ever get over 65mph.

with that being said, i think the DURA GRAP would be a fantastic tire for you. that was the route i was going to go, but then changed my mind cuz i wanted i little more aggresive looking tread. i don't go mudding, but would like the extra added security of having the A/T tire to get rid of the mud if i need it to. from what i have heard & talked to NITTO reps, they told me to go with the DURA. fantastic lasting E-rated highway tire. i'm not sure the tread style on that tire will help me if i need the extra help!!

Im in the same boat...most of my time is highway but there are times when I am rough camping, hunting etc. It would be nice to know I have some traction if I need it. I dont have to deal with snow and ice so much as I do mud.
Is the Dura Grappler an all terrain tire?

hey bud sorry i left ya high & dry, if you go to Nitto Tire - High Performance Tires for Car and Truck Enthusiasts, that will explain everything to you. then you can see the diff. between the TERRA & the DURA!! good luck in your search. i've been in texas a couple of times, have family in houston. the most rescent was for holloween, my aunt lives in cartwright, ok just over the border from dennison, tx she has a huge costume party every year. as for snow, yes we have enough of that sh-t!!!!! check out that site, you'll like it.

Well, just got off the phone with my local discount tire guy. I wanted pricing on the Nitto Dura Grappler and Terra Grappler. He told me that the Terra grappler would only give me about 40K. and I should consider going with the BF Goodrich T/A KO in a LT285/70/17 in a D range. He says I will get over 50K out of these tirer, however, if you go to Discount tires web site and pull up reviews for this tire they are all in the negative. Any thoughts?
