I'd be carefull with the BFG's. I'm one of the guys who has always SWORN by them. I've had their mud tires on 4 half tons and all terrains on 2 1ton trucks. I never had a problem with them even while towing. I put a set on this truck and still like them, they handle good, wear good so far (just over 20k miles), give me good traction in light mud, rain, and gravel. HOWEVER, I believe the sidewall is too thin for these trucks. I think that's a big contributor to my 'death wobble', wich occurs ever now and then dispite all the parts I've replaced. I'm not saying it's the tires fault, I just think they are too thin for our trucks. Or maybe it's just that the side wall is too thin and tall (I have 315's) and maybe a 285 would be fine. I cant say for sure. Buying tires is tricky. Finding the right size, load range, grip, tread life, handling, ride quality, ect ect ect. It get's worse when people (like me lol) start throwing horror stories around. While we are all mearly trying to help it's all going to come down to what it is YOU want for your truck. Take what the salesmen say with a grain of salt......they're trying to make money too..... ya know.

OK, this tire shopping is for the birds....I have decided to stay with the E rated tire. My choices are the Dura grappler which I have read nothing but good about, however I wish it was just a little more aggressive, the Hankook which I really like the looks of and have read very little neg. feedback about, the Terra Grappler I really like but worry I wont get the life out of it I am expecting and finally the Toyo. If I dont pick something soon and get on with this tire issue the wife is going to burn my truck..LOL

If your staying stock, Toyo M55's are the way to go. 1 ton work truck with lots of gravel road time went 75000km on a set. Mostly with 1200lbs in the bed and never rotated. Just at the wearbars when changed. Non stock size the Hankooks would be my choice.

![]() Here is a pic at 56K: ![]() The BFG website now lists a E-rated 285/70/17 AT KO that can be run at 80 psi. I replaced my D-rated 285s with E-rated 305/65/17 AT KOs. They were awesome in our Nor'Easter, on and offroad. Can't wait to hit the beach with them. ![]() Why does someone get 15K out of a set of tires and someone else gets 50K+ with the same tire? USER ERROR...

I wouldn't go with a d rated tire on our trucks. I'm surprised Discount would put D rated on your truck. It's against the corporate policy. I'm probably going to go with the E rated BFG 285/70/17's on my truck when my stock bfg's wear out in 40k miles or so. I've never got less than 50k out of a set of BFG's and I have 2000 pounds of crap in my bed all the time and rotate every 10k.

I decided to go out on a limb and get the Hankooks, I was up in the air between them and the Duras. I ordered them through Discount Tire last Friday. They never showed. They phoned me yesteday and told me they did not ship but that they would ship the order again. So I am still waiting. If they dont show by Friday I will get the Duras. I think they can get them relatively fast. Just FYI for everyone...my neighbor has a set of 16 inch Dura Grapplers on his Duramax and he is at 26,000 miles on them and has every bit of 60-70% of his tread still on. He will get over 50K easy and he tows a fifth wheel and pulls a boat on a regular basis. I know, I know.....

Well I got the Hankooks installed yesterday and man do they make a difference appearance wise going from a 265 highway to an all terrain 285. Should I expect these new tires to handle differently for the 265 highway tires?

I will try and get some pics this weekend.......for an update, I had to take them back to discount to have them rebalanced and it looks like I am going to have to take them in again. I have vibration between 55-65. The rebalancing helped but its still there. Will let you know what happens.

Hankook rf10 report
I have heard good reviews mostly about the Hankook RF10 but here is my story. I Just took my Hankook RF10 285/70/17 off my truck. Rode quiet and looked good but had a constant vibration at certain speeds. It felt like the tires were not completely round or at least one of them was. Balanced and re-balanced the set, re-aligned front end and fluctuated air pressure and no change. Dealer said it took a lot of weight to balance the set. When everything checked out as far as balance, the dealer thought it was my truck. Put old tires back on and the vibration was gone. I am thinking about Dura Graps for next set. Need something quick though my old bridgestone dueller at revo's are slicks now!
