Help me pick some tires!
Well, it's time for tires and I'm stuck in a quandry as to which ones to get. I'm looking for a good general purpose tire that will see 98% highway. I love the way MT's look but it's just not practical for me. Not interested in any Nitto's or BFG's as I've had both before and was not pleased at all with them because of treadwear issues. I'm running 35's right now and I love the way that big of a tire looks but I think I've talked myself in to going back down some to a 285/70/17. I'm looking for something that I will get good mileage out of and will cause my MPG's to go up. Here's what I've got it narrowed down to as of right now... Kuhmo Road Venture AT KL78 - These tires have decent reviews and are CHEAP! Hankook RF10 - Look similar to a Nitto TG and seem to have decent reviews. Not bad on price either! Michelin LTX AT2 - I'm not too wild on the tread pattern. The reason they are in the mix is because of treadlife. If they'll last 60K or something like that then I'd be all over them. Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor - I've never had any Goodyear tires on anything I have ever driven. Price seems comparable to the Michelin's. I've heard good and bad about Goodyear tires??? Cooper Discoverer S/T - I've had these tires before on a Chevrolet Z71 in 35x12.50x15 and absolutely loved them. I sold the truck with them still on there and was convinced that they were never going to wear out. They just seem to be a bit more expensive now than what I remember. I believe that's about it. I've looked at Toyo's but from I've read, those seem to last about as long as the Nitto's - if that's the case I wasn't going to even consider them. I love the look of them though. Thanks for your input!

Im really liking my Silent armors. I tow pretty damn heavy with them and dont have any complaints with sway. Ive racked up 15k miles on them towing about 10k half the time and rotate them every 5k and they are still 2/3 tread and are AWESOME in the wet and light snow/ice compared to my BFG AT's. I think they will last me about 35-40k servicable miles which is okay with me since they are warrentied to last 50k miles so i could get new ones if they dont last 50k ![]() The Michelins will give you the best highway mileage as they are the most road friendly if you picks that will also last quite some time. They are rather hard though so rain traction suffers quite a bit from what ive read with an empty bed. The Kuhmos while cheap dont last very long. A freind of mine has them on his 98 and they are down to 1/2 tread or less with only 12k miles of EASY driving on them. Hes happy with how they drive but they just dont hold up to the weight. The GY's are great for a good all terrain but outside of rain/snow traction do not offer anything the better wearing BFG's can do. My 315's have ~40k on them and still ahve 1/2 their tread left and still get the job done on the truck if im running them while not towing(i swap back and forth from the 265 GY's and the 315 BFGs) Jason

I have coopers on my truck were on it when I bought it brand new have 1200 on them now and they still look new. which disapionts me some cause they are 265s and would like to go bigger. but looks like I might have to wait quite some time befor these wear out. Why are you wanting to go back down to 285s did the 35s hurt your milage?

When I just bought my truck it had Michelins, THEY SUCK. Yeah sure quiet...... BUT THEY SUCK AT WEAR. 8000 miles and they were half way down, they were sun rotted (okay, so the tire weren't cleaned for 3 years, and always in the run, but 3 YEARS?). I would personaly go with anything else, because from my experience THEY SUCK. And they're tread life is less than the TOYO MT's I threw on from a friend. If you were happy with cooper why not go cooper, go with what you know, always the best bet!

I run a shop in southeast kansas and we sell more RF10's than anything else. They have only been out a year or so but they seem to really wear nicely. The only complaint that I hear out of them is that they dont clean out real well in the mud. But other than that I dont hear any complaints. I have to customers that run the KL78 on mega cabs. They go about 30k. Another tire that u might be interested in is the Yokohama geolander ats. It is a good tire for highway use.
