Went back to OE tire size...
Holy Crap what a HUGE difference going from 315's back to 265's like was on the truck stock. Looks awful ![]() But moving 50 miles from work and having to tow 5k back and forth made me decide to ether put 4.10's in the truck or go back to the 265's and its much cheaper fro new rubber than gears. But holy , i thought it could tow before and i still have a patched together trans with a used converter back in the truck that a friend gave me. Mileage is up 4mpg towing and up to ~25ish on the highway cruise at 60mph. Accelerates MUCH better with the weight behind it and empty it really moves out much better. It doesnt even try to get 5k moving now in 1st gear and ESPECIALLY in reverse on a softer job site, never understood why it has such a tall reverse With my skid steer or tractor back there i had to use 4-lo to not have to throttle is to back the darn thing up![]() Anyway, i got a insane deal on some GY silent armors from the local good year place, E-rated pro-grades, only 600 installed for all 4 since he has had them forever and wanted them gone. They stick like GLUE in the rain, i didnt realise how bad the BFG's were on wet roads. They are about the same tire volume as the BFG's but my AT's were very very quiet. Who can hear tires over the cacophony under the hood anyway? The sidewalls seem plenty strong as i got to try them out today pulling my utility trailer which is about ~5k and my parents 60hp NH tractor(about 9500 and i had maybe 2k lbs of accessories on the trailer also) from their farm to their new home they are building. Other than the shortcomings of the trans with that much weight, i have made this same load before on the 315's(d rated , but the top speed on the trip is only 40mph and 10 miles), but it tows SO MUCH better, i was floored with how much better the truck drove. The tires held the weight just fine, they were not overly bulged, my fathers E rated LT-Z MS do hold up better though.Eh, sorry fort he long write up, figured id tell someone since my girlfriend sure as hell doesnt care ![]() Jason

wow, so you really picked up a lot of gas milage and performance with the skinny tires??? thats cool. but how is straight line traction? if 1 are slicks and 10 was old tires.

The new ones i can still break loose if i punch it from a stop. But i have to go WOT to do it and from a dead stop. I could knock the truck sideways at 40mph if i nailed it with the BFG's and anything over 50% throttle on some roads would send the rear end either left or right from a stop. They also hydroplaned pretty easily on the highway. Jason

Yeah, until you've hauled/towed a trailer for any length of time, you can't appreciate smaller and narrower tires. Especially if you do any hills or mountains!!! Most/many of the dudes here have "urban assault vehicles" and never really "USE" their trucks IMHO!!! You've learned from actually doing/experiencing the difference!!!! Welcome to the true "haulers" club"!!

The stock tires and gearing that come with the truck optimize the highway performance and economy. I'm always amazed at guys who want to keep their larger tires that don't get the logic of regearing to "normalize" at least the power curve from Dodge. Braking certainly suffers also, but they sure look better!
