285/75/R16's

Im gonna put some 285's on my 01 4x4...curious if you guys know of a different speedo gear that i would have to put in my tranny or whatever? How far off would my speedometer be if i didnt change anything. Just curious any info is helpful. Thanks.

it might be off 2 or 3 mph its not a big enough deal to get a gear to correct it

I got 285 and it's a very minor difference.

The '01 is all electronic you can not change the speedometer ratio by swapping a speedo gear. Only way to do it is to reprogram the PCM.

Some of the programmers (Smarty) can reprogram the PCM for different size tires. Otherwise you'd have to take it to a shop to get it reprogrammed.

Since the speed signal comes from the rear axle speed sensor and the wheel speed senders up front, the tire size shouldn't effect the speedometer.

Mine is off ~6mph from my GPS at 65. Which seems to be normal since i havnt owned a vehicle that the speedo is actually dead on accurate.

Yes the speed signal comes from the sensor in the rear end. However tire size does affect it, a larger tire will travel a longer distance down the road per revolution.

My Edge says i have the usual and expected 5mph difference with the 305's but the Garmin says its right on....
