I'm just getting dizzy...
First off my apologies for possibly rehashing the same old question, yet again. I looked through the board for a while, and started getting dizzy. SO..... 2005 2500 QC 4x4 AT, 54,800 miles, OEM LT265/70R17 BFG Rugged Trail T/As. Still have the ORIGINAL tires on the truck - rotate every 10k, run at 60psi. They still have over 1/4" tread left, nice and even wear...but they're starting to crack, and since I run heavy a lot (sitting in the drive right now with 2,400 lbs in the bed) I'd just assume replace them before something goes wrong. Pluses on the stock tires: 55,000 miles! Good enough wet traction, OK snow traction (I have a Wrangler with 31-10.50 MTs on it for the really deep stuff, but this needs to get the wife to/from work in bad weather if I'm in the Jeep), nice and quiet, great MPG, Load range E. Minuses: not so good off-road (we own "unimproved" land that we hope to "improve" soon...this truck is access for us and our tools most times). Look a little weenie, size-wise. Pricey to replace...but again, 55k miles, I got my $ worth. I'm inclined to get another set of these tires, unless someone can offer information convincing me there are better options out there for wet/snow/mud, without giving up load range or highway longevity (absolutely won't give those up), mpg or highway manners (might compromise on those, within reason). I like the idea of maybe a 285, but that adds a fifth tire to the purchase (spare) just for...image? Treadwear? Stability? My other main consideration is the Michelin LTX. We sold the hell out of those when I worked for a Jeep dealer and they were awesome on Cherokees and Grand Cherokees...how do they do on the heavier trucks like the 2500? Again...there's the $ thing to consider. <sigh> I really don't want to buy tires right now......

ok man i justwent down bout a 6 -8 months ago and got my tires from firestone and they are great dont remember the name of them but i will get it just too lazy to do it now and its cold out there but anyways i have put almost 20000 miles on the truck since then and they are doing great and i also run overload alot but the nice thing is that they even offered a service plan for 20 bucks for the commercial tires wich no one else is offering down here anyways but just thought you might try the fire stone oh and mine are 265-75 or 80 16 but i only paid $585 but that was total i do belive.

bridgestone/firestones tend to wear very quickly on our heavy trucks due to the soft tread compound. i got 15000 on a set of dueler a/t's rotated regularly and kept properly inflated. LTX's are a decent all around tire with a ton of siping on them and a decent ride, i have 4 sitting in my garage that i pulled of my rig when i got it (265/65/16), they ride great but i didnt like the way they handled on highway (tended to find grooves in the road, made me track all over the lane)...plus i wanted something that was more agressive and filled my wells up a bit better. from what wear i put on them they wore well and evenly. I had problems with the sidewalls cracking and belts breaking on BFG Radial Long Trails i had on my old truck, but then again they had nearly 80k on the tack (no joke...and the belts broke at about 75k). They actually had suprising off road capability, a quiet ride, and as you can see they lasted a good while. Good wet handling and great wear. For what you're looking for the LTX's or the Long Trails will probably do just fine and are great tires from reputable companies Now if you're able to put up a bit more $ BFG A/T's are a great all around tire and I have liked them better than any other tire i've used. Great traction, highway control, and are often available with an E load rating. Not to mention they look great and give you a bit of peace of mind knowing you can get through alot of thick stuff when you need to. Another choice for about the same price as the BFG A/T is the Nitto Terra Grappler, not quite as great off road traction as the BFG, but they have a rep for great longevity and durability, and they have a pretty strong following.

I have a set of the ltx at2's and i like em, ive had em rotated and have about 35k miles on them and still around half tread, keep 60psi in front and 70 in back I think. I dont know about snow but they gripped great in the sand. And they are quite a bit beefier than the stock ones. I got them in 285-70-17. A lot quiter too. I cant stand the bfg mt's on my brothers truck. I have hauled with the at2's and they worked fine. They definately get my vote but I dont live anywhere near snow, though its sleeting right now.
