Tire Size vs 4x4 operation question

Hey guys, I just purchased my first Dodge and have a question. The truck is a 2006 3500 4x4 big horn. I have had the truck for a couple of weeks, but today when I was checking all of the tire pressures I noticed that my front tires and rear tires are different sizes. I guess I did not notice this right off the bat as all 6 tires are the same brand/kind and all looked new so I paid no attention. But now I see that the rear tires are 235/80/17 (which according to my door sticker, are correct) and the front tires are 265/70/17. Why would someone do this? Now I see that I cannot rotate my tires, and further, can I not even use my 4 wheel drive?? Front and rear diffs are 3.73 so if the tires are different size, wont this tear up my transfer case? Or is this a common practice on these trucks to get a wider tire on the front? Dont want to tear my truck up, but I do use the 4 wheel drive alot as I use my truck commercially and travel up north alot. Thanks for your help.

you're fine. that's normal for a dually. the overall diameter is the same. google a tire size calculator and plug in your numbers. you'll see they're the same height and that's all your axles and transfer case care about.

Your rear tires are 31.8 in and your fronts are 31.6 This could be the difference in running a new set of tires on one axle and a worn set on the other axle,, at any rate you will be fine..
