Toyo? at or mt

I need tires bad and think I narrowed it to the Toyo At 285/75 17 or Mt 295/70 17. Now I just need to decide witch. I drive in snow, ice and some mud (farm roads and hunting roads) I also thought of 315'70 17 Cooper Atr's but I dont know if it will fit without a leveling kit. I am so tired or tire shoppingmy brain is toast. Any one have any suggestions, It needs to hook up good and last. Not 28k like my BFG at's.

Thanks

Matt

Go with the M/T. I love my Toyo M/T's bud. And 90% or more of people that respond to this will tell you to get them as well:thumbsup

I am in Ontario and have the Toyo Open Country HT tires on my truck. Great tire on pavement and so far proving to be a damn good tire on snow and ice.

Got a set of 315's in the mud terrain on the wife's Expedition. They've done very well in the little bit of ice and snow we got out east.

I had my 295 17 M/T's sipped and have had no problems on ice and snow.

Not that you are looking at these tires, but take a look at the Cooper Discoverer S/T and STT. The S/T is an aggressive all terrain tread. The STT is a mud tire, similar to the Toyo MT. My point is that they handle very differently on snow and ice. I've owned many sets of S/T tires. I am now running a set of STT tires on my '02 in 315 size. While the STT mud tread is great in many things, they are definately worse on snow and ice. The S/T tread was much better for snowy and icy roads.

So when considering the MT or AT Toyos (which are both great tires), the MT will not do as well as the AT in snow and ice. Anyone that says differently either hasn't owned both or is delusional. MT tires are great in mud, sand, gravel, etc. But since mud dedicated tread lacks enough edges and siping, they do not grab icy roads as well. Compare a mud tire to a Blizzak or something for ice driving. Very different tread concepts and goals. The AT tires will work well on most things, but in the mud they are more likely to clog and become worthless due to being less able to clean out. Mud tires clean out easier and continue to grab in mud.

Some of the worst, deadliest tires I've ever experiences on snow packed and icy roads were Super Swampers. A great mud tire but they will do their best to get you or others killed on winter roads.

I like the look of my Cooper STT tires, and they work great, but I'm pondering my next set and may go to something better on icy roads, like the S/T Cooper or something similar. I'm strongly considering switching to Toyos since they seem to have a better carcass than the Coopers.

-Chuck

Toya A/T's here.....

So far have been a great tire. I was a little disappointed in their "looks" regarding an all terrain tire but they do handle the roads extremely well.

Haven't seen any deep snow as of yet but with the snow & ice that we did see last year, the A/T's did a great job.

HUMP:thumbsup
