SNOW PERFORMANCE TOYO MT 295's vs. 35's...

Wanted to get everyones opinions. I know for snow usually a narrower tire works best.

The OEM BFG long trails are terrible in the snow. My wifes car does better than my truck until I put it in 4x4. On my 06 CTD, same issue, when I swapped tires I was amazed at how much better the truck was in the snow. On the 06 I was running 295/70/17 Toyo MT's. ON the 08, I woudl like to run 35x12.50/17 Toyo MT's.

What do you guys think? Think they will be as good int he snow as the 295's, or am I going to regret getting suck a large wide tire?

I travel alot in the winter to snowmobile, and when the snow is flying I don't let road conditions stop me from making it up north, so I need a tire that will give me the perofrmance needed to make the trek.

The difference between stock and the toyos on the last truck, was the difference betweena white knuckle nose to the windshield drive, vs. a cautious but confident drive.

any help is appreciated.

Why a mudder? Honestly, I like the looks of the mudders way better than an AT. I honestly havent been impressed with any of the mudders I have run on my Jeeps in the snow, but the Toyo's IMO did very well on the old truck in the snow...figure I'll go with what worked well for me in the past.

I have my mind made up on Toyo's. Just contemplating size, and I've pretty much made up my mind 35's.

Trxus are nice, but I wouldn't run them on my truck, wouldn't mind trying them on my TJ though. Just haven't had great luck with wear on interco tires.

for snow you could always sipe the tires... but if you do that I'd be cautious about any burnouts you do because that can chunk the crap out of a siped tire I've heard

Toyo M/Ts are great in the snow. However they are absolutely horrible in the ice. I'm wondering if I can get them studded.

Most OEM tires stink, that's a plain fact. I think in the lower 48, studding tires is illegal. Alaska and Canada allow studs though.

If you want a tire to work on snow packed and icy roads, the rule is the more edges and siping, the better the tire will perform. Mud tires are usually poor performers on ice and snow packed roads. The best all around tire I've owned thus far for mud/snow/ice/sand/everything is the Cooper S/T. I'm running the Cooper STT tires currently and the S/T tires were much better on snow and ice.

nope. my audi had studs on all 4 corners here in colorado (and quattro, it kicked butt in the snow). a lot of people here use them.

Consider 285-75-17 Toyo Mt's. Taller and a bit narrower than the 295's. They do have a lower weight rating though.
