Exclamation Dura Grappler stem fail

I have a set of Dura Grappler A/Ts on my truck. They've proven to be a pretty good tire but I had a hiccup with one of them today.

I aired up my tires to about 65 rear/70 front as I normally do (eta: I don't tow or haul... the truck is turning into a toy) and after some mixed highway and city driving, I heard a sharp "pfffsst" come from my front driver's side as I was coming to a stop.

The source was the stem, and while the tire retained about 30-40 psi, any manipulation of the valve stem caused more leakage. Fortunately, I was within a mile of home and limped home.

I got the tire restemmed and looked at and was given a clean bill of health. Aired back up to about 65 (playing it safe) and drove it home no problem.

The tires have about 5k on them now.. has anyone else had a problem with their Nittos failing like this? I hope mine was just an isolated incident.

A valve stem failure is not the tires fault.

There's a huge recall of Chinese made stems out there. I'd pay another buck ea just to enable our factories to make us a decent stem. Definitely not Nitto's fault.

Thanks Danderson and Joe for the heads up

Sounds like a restem of the other three is in order... I knew I lucked out today and sure wouldn't want that to happen on a snowy interstate somewhere.

I had steel stems put in my new rims. Make sure they use a stem rated for the higher pressure.

The tires were purchased at a Les Schwab. I might have gone a different route but I was home on leave and time was short...

I would call them and see if the valve stems they sold you were from Dill. If they are, they should have some kind of replacement program in place.
