Cool 1996 dodge ram 2500 4x4 tires

i was wonder'n what would be the best tires for my truck and whats the biggest i can go stock. i need a tire for off road 10% and rock 10% and road 80%. i currently have 265/75/16 cooper discoverer stt's and i'm not impressed at all. with only 7,500 miles on them they have about 25% tread left. i dont tow very often only a four wheeler or two every now and then. i also have ranch hand bumbers on the front and rear. i would realy like a tire that would last 30-40,000 miles.

thanks

Apperently you have more problems than you think, I have run the STT's for years and get a minium of 40,000 miles out of them each set. I also know many many people on here that have the same luck with them. All my trucks have been 1 ton duallys that travel oil field lease roads, (basicly goat trails) regularly, and pull 15,000 to 30,000 lbs. i would have your alignment looked at as well as your front end if you honestly have 7500 miles and 25% traed left. Just seems VERY unlickley and you have something more in depth wrong than just your tire choince.

I would have to agree with SoTex on this one. I have mickey thompson mudds and have had them for about 15000 miles and have plenty of tread left. I haul a trailer with two round bales, a couple of times a month. And run close to 600 mile trips every two weeks, unloaded. I would get your truck checked out.

Ive got a good around 35,000 on my STT's. I love them but will probably be going to STs this time cause I don't really need such an agressive tread. Ive been running Coopers for years have no complaints about them at all. A buddy of mine is running 35's with just a leveling kit on his 2000 with stock wheels. He said they rub alittle at times but no big deal. 33's should fit no problem with a leveling kit.

dont really know of any Big O Tires or at least i dont know if there is many or any in Texas. Could be wrong though. I have had bumpers on all my trucks and have never had tires wear out in 7500 miles thats just unreal, heck i had boggers that lasted for 15000. Sounds like possibly a camber problem i would ask the dealer to check the alignment manily and your front end compinents. Are your tires wearing evenly? or on just one side? I have run 35 12.50's on most of my 4x4's with just a leveling kit and never had any problems.

went to the dealer to day and they said the ball joints were going bad. but can the ball joints have that much of an effect? the tires are wearing evenly. i think am going to get something other than the stt's next time just to change the looks. i was thinking more of an all terain but yet still good on muddy roads.

thanks

good luck ball joints will wipe out tires awful quick, my 99 was notorious for losing ball joints and trashing tires. If it were mine i would definately fix them before buying new tires and also an alignment.
