My safety recall mistake!
Hi. I have a 2005 ram with the cummins engine. I got a letter in the mail saying there was a safety recall on the truck that had to do with it slipping out of park and rolling in reverse or something of that sort so I took it in. When I asked the service tech what the fix was, he said he didn't know but they would get it fixed. BIG MISTAKE! The fix is to have the lights flash and the horn to start going off if the door is open. I hate it! Many times when hooking up a trailer I hold my door open so I can hear the person helping me. I asked the service department if there was a way to disable it but they said there was nothing they were aware of. I am sure some of you have experienced the same problem, is there a fix? There has to be a way to install a previous flash. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think that recall is the "Oops" recall. I joined the club as soon as I got the invitation as well.

Sorry you had that done with out your advisor explaining what was involved. The new 2006 trucks have that standard and when they do the flash, part of the flash is to disable the ability to accept the older version of software... No going back! Sorry. I hate it to but have trained myself to use the brake just enough to still be able to back up to my trailers and keep the alarm from sounding off!!! JOSH

that doesn't work on my '05. I've tried everything mentioned on this forum w/ exception to adding in a wire to bypass the seat belt. Which I don' tthink would even work because the horn still honks w/ the belt latched. Oh well. Hindsight is 20-20.

So you are saying you have tried backing up (in reverse) and the door open and the alarm still goes off even when you foor is on the brake??? (I am talking about the foot brake, not the E brake) Because the brake light signal plus vehicle speed signal combined with an open door is what makes the alarm go off. I hold just enough pressure on the foot brake pedal to turn the tail lights on and the alarm does not sound off. JOSH

I guess that will teach me not to do that again without knowing exactly what is involved in the flash. I can back up ok with slight pressure on the brakes and everything is ok. It just scares the crap out of me the first time before I remeber I have to do that. Thanks for your help.

I got same letter in mail for my 05. thanks you all warned me in time. I almost whent in to get it done. So when i did go there for dif, grease, i asked them about it. They said they would not do it if i did not whant it. Bet it is in other flashes or something that will sneak in un noticed. darn cornputers |

If that had happened to me, I would have to put a switch in the wire to the horns so they could be disconnected......... Besides the fact that I would be mad enough to 'fix' some engineer type. Dan

I had a buddies truck in yesterday with a couple problems and he has been avoiding the Recall like the pelage but when his truck needed another update that was in the flash too so he got stuck with it too!!! It scares the crap out of me every time I am backing up to the trailer and the horn honks!!! Im sure the ole lady next door dont like it much when I hook the trailer up at 4:30 and 5oclock in the mornings!! JOSH
