need help bad!

I have a 2004 cummins 4x4 with auto trans. A few months ago while driving down the freeway it lost all power then engine died. couldent get it started, had it towed and the lift pump was repaced with the new style retro fit pump. a month went by and it was running great then the same thing happened again. this time when they got it to the shop it ran fine and could find nothing wrong with it. the day I went to pick it up they told me that morning it was showing low fuel pressure. they changed out the fuel pressure regulator and sent me on my way. now 1200 miles later it died but was able to start it back up but will only run a mile or so then the engine will sputter wanting to die, sometimes it will sometimes it picks back up and goes. It will idle fine for now and I can even hold the pedal down and maintain 2000 rpms but when I try to drive it, it will die. ANY HELP OR INFO WOULD BE GREAT.

How many miles on your fuel filter? It sounds like the filter is clogged. or there is something in the tank that is getting sucked into the pick up tube and starving it for fuel.

fuel filter was changed 900 miles ago. I thought the same thing and changed it again, and problem is still there. If something was in the pickup tube would'nt it act up all the time? it will act up then run for a couple thousand miles or so with no problems. How do I check if there is something in the pickup tube??

There is something for sure causing the fuel to be restricted somewere in the lines or pickup. When the truck is running it has suction on the lines and then pulls whatever it is into the line and restricts it. Then when it dies the whatever will move out of the way. Why it takes so long for it to do it again is well Im not sure. I'v seen a rubber hose come apart internaly and have a small flap that will come down and block the line, but then it would do it all the time so I don't know whats going on. It's weird. The only way to check the pickup is to drop the tank and pull the assembly out of the top of the tank.

I worked on a pickup 3 weeks ago which had the same problem. It wound up being the valve in the fuel module not allowing fuel to feed the pick up for the pump. Replaced the fuel module and worked perfectly. I'm at a dealership, so cleaning the module might have worked also.
