Angry Brake help

hey i am pretty new to the diesel world and recently bought a 98 24v from my grandma. sweet grandma huh? the front brakes need some fixing and i was going to just replace the calipers, hoses, and rotors. when i got the wheels off and tried to remove the brake disc i read you have to remove the wheel hub with it. does anyone have any advice for getting it off easier because its on there pretty good. anything would be helpful as im learning pretty much as i go. thanks

Justin Martin

Yes you are right, you have to remove the hub assy. to take off the rotor. When I did mine I pulled the brake calliper and hung it with some wire out of the way. then I pulled the retaining nut and smacked the axle with a 8lb sledge hitting a 4x4 piece of wood. like 3 smacks and the axle was loose. I pulled 3 of the bolts on the back of the hub and just backed the 4th out most of the way. Then I put the tire back on, turned the steering wheel all the way to which ever side I was working on, and took a few good swings with the hammer on the sidewall of the tire. 3 or 4 good hits and it was off. I pulled the tire off and then the last bolt from the hub. Good luck.

There are other ways also just do a search on hub removal. I did, and here is one that I think is even eisier than how I did it.
