I am on my 3rd Dodge Cummins. Love 'um. However my current one is an 07 with the 6.9L with all the new emissions garbage. I have had the check engine light come on dozens of times. Had it to the dealer as many. Their answer "Dodge got ahead of themselves on this one and the computer is the issue". Answer has always been, needs "new flash" (computer lingo for software upgrade). Have had this over 6 times. Finally they replaced the turbo. Guaranteed me it was fixed...again. Engine light on again. Mean time heard that the problem is sooting up of the filter and turbo and will ALWAYS be a problem. Had truck in again today. Told me new flash will fix. Found out I HAD new flash already. Service report indicated "DPF filter plugged. Performed mobile de-soot and de-sox. Clear codes". Are these engines LEMONS and what can be done? Thoughts?

I have over 26,000 miles on my 6.7. I have only had the truck in the shop for shop error. No issues, but i drive over 70 mile daily.

No problems on mine either. How are you driving the truck? Alot of the problems are with guys that don't get them out on the highway.

I drive mine on the highway everyday and just had to put it in the shop. They had to replace my cat, egr valve, throttle body and intake gaskets. Also had to desoot my crap. They told me that they problem was the air filter and fuel filter was letting dust and stuff into the motor they causing the motor to burn oil clogging up everything. So will have to wait and see if that fixes the problems.

Thanks all. However, I am beginning to believe the prob is ONLY with the 07 year 6.7's. 08's probably fixed prior to release. 5.9's are the best. Had two of them. No probs; much much better mileage. Mostly city and freeway driving. Last edited by rmacowboy : 03-21-2008 at 10:58 PM. |

Huh? I don't even understand that last statement. What is a 6.9?

Sorry for the mistakes (now corrected) on engine sizes. No sleep, tough days, fat fingers...what can I say. At least you all got my point. Returned again to dealer with same problem. This time was told that the "sooting" problem will continue to be a problem with these engines FOREVER. They will need to be "de-sooted" about every 15-25K. So far, I don't like this version...... |

Find a dealer that knows what he is talking about because obviously the one you are using now doesn't have a clue.

I now have 105,000 Km on mine and except for all the reflashes, G30 recall, replacement of the EGR Valve, Cat & DPF (under warranty) the truck remains a very reliable ride. With the AX reflash the milage has begun to climb up a bit however on the down side milage is worse in the city and the EGT temps during Regen are not as extreme as previous. According to my oil Analysis samples it is recommended to stay with the change interval as indicated on the overhead consul if you exceed the consul recommendation the wear indicators increase and the soot contamination rises sharply.
